I would assume they would do only half the season this year and the second half next year once the series is completed in Japan.

There's a "top secret" new 1/1000 model on "display" at the Shizuoka model show - which we can clearly see is the "Musashi" (or whatever name they'll give it in 2202), despite the opaque glass cover. My guess is that this is the "mysterious ship" commanded by captain Todo, not the Prometheus. That would explain why her command console and the wall behind her resemble Yamato's.

That could also be where Yamato's remaining crew ends up, as they would be most familiar with that design. Though they might start on Prometheus.

Naw, the would be released as soon as Yamato's mission is "officially sanctioned". There just wouldn't be time to ship them off to Yamato as the mission would be all "Go, Go, Go". They barely got Kato out their on a warp sled before they took off for deep space.

Some of us aren't taking into account the production time vs. release schedule. The episodes would be finished weeks before the theatrical releases in Japan, as they also have to prepare the Theater Exclusive DVD/Blu-rays - mastering, authoring, rendering, and pressing, QC, etc., which is exacting and takes time. The episodes would also be simultaneous edited into the theatrical release version, which requires additional, detailed technical work.

Therefore the lead time for prepping the Episodic versions for the home video release would be many weeks ahead of the theatrical releases - they aren't finishing an episode days or hours before release (although this did happen to "2199" because of the compressed release schedule, while "2202"'s schedule has been spaced further out to circumvent that problem). So, they would be complete well ahead of the respective theatrical releases, and accessible to Funimation. ADR scripts can be sent well ahead of the physical episodes.

Following the current release schedule in Japan, Chapter 7 (Episodes 23-26) should bow in theaters this late October, on the same date the Theater Exclusive DVD/Blu-ray of Vol. 7 will be released, which means that the episodes would be "in the can" several weeks prior. Going by Funimation's start date of May 9th, the 26th episode of "2202" would stream on October 31st - around the same time that Chapter 7 would premiere, which I have a feeling would be October 26th. So, the timing is quite perfect, actually.

And if there was any need for a delay, for whatever reason, it wouldn't need to be months or next year. Although, it would be disastrous if Funimation/Crunchy had to stop and resume at a later date.

That would mean that episodes 23, 24, and maybe 25 would be out before Chapter 7 hits theaters.

Probably, but only in North America, as countries outside of Canada and the United States would be blocked.

I suppose. It seems odd to me, but that's just me. On the other hand, Hollywood films sometimes release in Europe before they get released in the United States.

Not odd if you're streaming anime in North America. Well, look at it this way - movies have to be completed, printed, and sent to theaters across the country, all before the official opening day. They aren't being worked on the night before the premiere, and are also often screened in advance for press screenings (and some public sneak previews) as much as two weeks prior to the official release date.

We live in very advantageous times. Right now, there are a number of current Japanese animated series that are being "simulcast" on North American streaming platforms, such as Funimation, Crunchyroll, and HIDIVE, within hours after they are broadcast in Japan. Not days, hours. Additionally, Funimation boasts "Simuldubs," which are uploaded two weeks after Japanese broadcast, but dubbed into English, as Funimation has their own dubbing studios and staff in-house.

These are the currents in the North American anime business, and "2202" and Yamato fans are benefitting from this nearly instantaneous succession from Japanese premiere to availability in the US. As incredible as it may seem, this is what American anime fans have become accustomed to expect from these platforms, which must be competitive to survive. Funimation and Crunchyroll decided to combine their forces to share their licenses for streaming.

Meanwhile, Section 23/Sentai Filmworks, formerly ADV Films, recently launched their own streaming platform, HIDIVE, which includes a mix of live action films and television shows into their anime mix, which boasts a healthy helping of old school titles. These include "Gatchman" (and it's Americanized version as "Battle of the Planets"), "Casshan," "Space Runaway Ideon," "Blue Gale Xabungle," "Future Police Urashiman," and "Aura Battler Dunbine." One of HIDIVE's simulcasts features the brand-new "Cutie Honey Universe" series.

Personally, I'm really excited that Funimation has licensed the franchise, as the first half Blu-ray/DVD Combo box for "2199" (Episodes 1-13) will be out on July 31st - a deluxe edition with a collectors box and a 40-page art book will also be available. The second set will probably be issued in time for Christmas. And hey, before you know it, they'll also be giving "2202" the same treatment. So, I'm not going to look a gift space battleship in the WMG Barrel...

It's still amusing to me that, if what you're saying will come to pass, the Japanese audience will have to pirate the English translation if they want to see what happens at the end of the series as soon as possible. An ironic little reversal.

Realistically, I expect Chapter 7 to bow in Japanese Cinemas by mid-to-late October, which still puts Japan ahead as far as the last episode is concerned. But, we'll see... Anything can happen being this far out. To quote William Shatner from AIRPLANE II: THE SEQUEL, "Irony can be pretty ironic. Sometimes."

It looks like 2202's battle satellites are the Kongou turret ones instead of the original series design.
