The thing is that when Yukimura asked him the pressure made him say yes, cause if he said no they club may be doomed from his PoV, though now that he said yes, everything will be worse.

My thing about kodaka is this. He feels guilty about the Yozora situation which i think took a huge toll on him. Does he truly love Sena i actually would put it at under %50 he just chose her because she's the simplest option of that group. Especially since for the longest time they didnt even know Yukimura was a girl.

I can't understand Kodaka anymore. Does the word "love" have any weight to him? First he said he loved Sena then in the end of vol 10 he thought he loved Rika (someone spoiled so). WTF? Can't wait for him to say he loves Yozora in vol 11 -_-

There are many kinds of love in varying degrees of attraction I haven't read the novels in a while but he never said he loves Yozora but had heavy feelings for her and those feelings manifest for a sense of responsibility and loyalty. For Sena he does love her but the feelings were closer to lust than anything else and a sense respecting her for the way she is. With Rika his inner monologue pretty much cynched it that he was actually IN LOVE with her although him being completely retarded and dense he thought that's what it felt like to have a friend(fucking idiot I swear).

Side note; If I remember correctly he never used the word "Ai"(Love) to describe his feelings for Sena or anyone else he used "Dai suki" (Like). Although my jap is shit and I could be confusing my words.

Yeah I honestly can't be too hard on Kodoka, he has it hard enough with the attitude society gives him for looks, he has to baby sit his little sister, and lets face every girl that likes him is a broken birds at best, escaped mental patients at worst.

Well, I can be hard on him.
He is dishonest the whole time - for raising flags on all people he meets.
His relationship with Yukimura was dishonest from the start. While Yozora fooled her the whole time for her own fun which was always obvious, Kodaka is dishonest to her in terms of love which is even more worse.

Yukimura has reached a high level of happiness because Kodaka continued to agree to everything she wants. In a relationship with Yukimura he never will be free, because he always have to pretend to be her Aniki, so he have to end this.

But can you imagine what happens if Kodaka is honest and tells her something like this:
"I don't want to be your boyfriend! I don't want to be your Aniki! I never ever wanted to be your Aniki!".

I don't want to be in his skin. The next volume... *Suspense*, *The cruel truth*

While I agree that Yukimura isn't quite a match for him the same can be said for all the girls they're all basically using Kodaka as a lifeline to fulfill something that's missing in their lives and ironically the one who's been honest from the start and saw through all the bullshit and roundabout was Rika(who'll probably end up winning since in my opinion the book is her retelling the story).

I agree with this. He never really tried to seek any relationships with any of them. Yozora he was childhood friends with but never really saw as a girl, Sena is kind pushed on him because of their parents relationship, and with the other girls he is friendly, but I don't think he does anything overtly that leads them on.

Personally I prefer Sena, but if I had to go with a second choice I would like him with yukimura. But this is just a matter of preference of the girls, not whether it would be the perfect pariing.

Yea right now the two I'd like him with the most is Sena and Rika since he seemed to click with them the most, although to be perfectly honest I slightly favor Rika, since out of all the girls the ones with the most intimate moments with him were those two. Yukimura is a bad choice in my opinion since Kodaka needs an equal and partner not someone to constantly be the pillar of support to which is why Sena, again my opinion, doesn't mesh that well either since she's the kind of girl who'll most likely rely on him too much. What I see happening is him and Yukimura will break up by the end of the epilogue with either an open end or Rika end.

In the end, I would be truly surprised if the novels don't end with a sort of "life goes on" ending. Even if Kodaka did start "going out" with someone, the other girls would find various reasons to not give up and basically nothing much would change.

That said, I would note that the PR does not say that this is the final volume, just a new volume. Doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't, but something to note. Typically they do advertise heavily when something is the final volume, but perhaps they're trying to keep people guessing.

Last I heard it was called an epilogue but that was a while ago so you're probably right. Hopefully the writer got his time off and figured out a way to fix this series it was at one time one of my favorites and if it does go on or we get a sequel series I'd be happy as long as the quality of the story doesn't drop.

Nothing much to talk about from the translated preview of Chapter 4. It went like your typical "social interaction" part in visual novels with the MC checking out on what the girls are currently doing. The title "Backlight" seems interesting, though. It can symbolize something happening from the background, like during the Christmas play, I guess?

Well... I've always thought the author was being a bit of a tease. It could just be "an epilogue to the events that happened in this volume, but not to the whole story". So I'm reserving judgement. We'll see what happens. The big thing is that all the delays (whatever the reason) have put a strain on the momentum of the story (and probably the sales, I imagine) so hopefully as you say the writer has everything in order now one way or another.

I also hope things worked out with Buriki -- still hasn't been illustrating anything, and I still don't think we heard if he was sick/injured, burnt out, or what.

Dude he his site is either dead or taken down and the last public statement he made was, and I'm paraphrasing, "fuck all this I'm out". It's a shame really his illustrations were killer I hope someday he picks up the pencil again.

Kodaka = the author
Sena = the readers
Yozora = the illustrator
Rika = the author's original intended storyline
Neighbours' Club = the BokuTomo series

So Kodaka as a character is representative of the author himself. In one of his earlier author's notes, he had stated that he wrote this story for fun and to earn a little money out of the series [can't remember 100% since it was a long time ago]. One of my early theories was that the author had lost control of his plot and was merely pandering to Sena's popularity when he wrote about the engagement between Sena and Kodaka. As such, Sena represents popularity among the readers.

Yozora is Kodaka's childhood friend, who ended up running away in the latest volume due to a misunderstanding. While we do not have full knowledge about what's going on between the author and illustrator, it appears very likely that their relationship has soured as well. Yozora therefore represents the illustrator.

Rika is a character that Kodaka only got to know shortly after the Neighbours' Club was formed. Kodaka's early descriptions of Rika included some underlying tones of attraction to her as a person. Rika thus represents the author's original intended plot line when writing the BokuTomo series, which itself refers to the Neighbours' Club.

So who which ending wil the author (Kodaka) choose? Sena (popular end)? Yozora (mending his relationship with his illustrator)? Or Rika (his original end)?
