Again poor crime plotting on author's part.
"Kid had to dress up as a fat guy to bring all the stolen goods with him?" What if he did it well ahead of the crime? (as anyone sane would do - the less preparations you leave for the last moment, the less chances something goes awry) |

That said, I am not fond of the idea of anime writers rewriting Detective Conan cases with Kid from Kid's POV: they should just adapt Magic Kaito chapters and leave the DC chapters to the DC animators. I hope this will be the first and last DC case shown in Magic Kaito 1412. |

^ They sort of leave that detail out, yes. That said, new watchers might miss some other details regarding the case if you don't read/watch the original Detective Conan version. Really, if anime writers really want to rewrite a Detective Conan chapter into Magic Kaito, they'd better do it a bit more thoroughly.
Ryoma's case itself is not among the most interesting cases, but Phantom Lady's story is pretty connected with it, so I guess the anime writers want to do it in KID's POV. That said if they already wrote Conan into this show already, I doubt this is the last we saw of him. Now that I remember it, the most flashy KID's heists are not in Magic Kaito. Those go to some of the KID's heists in DC and only when Kaito seriously wants a duel with Conan (the walking-in-the-air and teleportation ones). Wonder if they will try to do those in this show, to show more of these two's equal-footing rivalry. Speaking of rivalry... Just where the hell is blond half-Brit Hakuba? He only showed up in episode 4 and disappeared ever since. In the manga he is actually the official rival for Kaito and appeared more often, and now it seems like this anime wants to sideline him in favor of Shinichi/Conan.

*The Police are Everywhere *The Ticking Heart *The Underwater Pirate Ship *Stay Away From Me *Japan's Most Irresponsible Leader *I Am The Master *The Boy Who Bet on the Ball *Akako's Delivery Service *Yaiba vs. Kaito! *Green Dream *Crystal Mother *Red Tear *Golden Eye (2 chapters) *Dark Knight (2 chapters) *Midnight Crow (3 chapters). This is the most recent story, as it was published bewteen October 1 and October 15, 2014, and the first anime episode hinted that they would adapt it (I won't do spoilers here). So, even if they decide not to animate one or two chapters, they still have enough material to fill the remaining 12 episodes without rewriting other Detective Conan chapters. Quote:

To be fair to anime producers, Hakuba doesn't appear all that much in the manga. These are his appearences, counting two-parters and three-parters as one story: *The Great Detective Appears!! (adapted in the first half of episode 4) *Kaitou Under Scrutiny (adapted in the second half of episode 4) *Akako's Delivery Service (yet to be animated in this anime) *Black Star (drawn in the background in one panel when Nakamori talks about the fact that Hakuba is abroad; this scene was removed in episode 6) *Golden Eye (yet to be animated in this anime; Hakuba has a small role) *Dark Knight (yet to be animated in this anime) *Midnight Crow (yet to be animated) |

Yeah, maybe due to the fact that they didn't adapt the chapters in the chronological order so my memory is tricky, Hakuba's appearances in the manga was more in-between rather than being pushed back to the later half like in the anime.

Ahh my namesake!
Just watched the first 5 episodes. And I must say it's not very good so far. Maybe it's because I haven't really watched an anime serie in more than 3 years, but I don't like the pacing and the overal design and animation. It look and feels very cheap to me. It definitely doesn't do the manga and the character Kaito any justice.. But still this is Kaito! And I really wanted this anime to be made 10 years ago so I'll give it a couple more episodes.

The new anime sure doesn't have very good animation and the designs irk me as some points (god, them noses ), and the stories are not super interesting but I enjoy the show where it's fun nonetheless. It's about Kaitou Kid after all. I'm pretty sure the target audience are mainly people who know Kaitou Kid from Detective Conan or the manga (if the last episode is any indication, where Conan and co. just show up out of the blue like they have always been there) and the thief is very popular in DC fanbase, so whatever happen there would still be fans watching.

He is a Phantom Thief number 1412 in the police books (looks like they have a real abundance of Phantom Thieves!).
Someone wrote that number in a way that made it look like a word "KID" (you can see it in the OP), that's how he got his nickname. |

Though it should be noticed that the 1412 name is more like a plot device than anything else, as it was used in Kid's first appearance tin Detective Conan to hide Kid's identity to the reader until the big reveal when we see him landing on that roof. In the following cases, the 1412 name is not mentioned anymore except for two stories: the non-canon movie 3 (which briefly mentions it) and the case in volume 55 when we learn it was Yusaku who gave him that name. In the Magic Kaito manga, we never learn that he is also called 1412, which makes me wonder why the anime was called Magic Kaito 1412. I guess they didn't want to reuse the name Magic Kaito used in the specials. |

Wow, this would have probably been my favorite show last season if I had watched it then... *sigh* well at least I'm lucky, lucky, lucky and can now watch this during this season. I hope this gets popular enough so Gosho can start working on this again in earnest. Edit: I'm hoping 1412 becomes relevant in a case that we get to see in the next 12 episodes. (speculation on my part) After all, I'm pretty sure this will be at least covering the Phantom Lady arc...

However, Gosho often said he will regularly start publishing Magic Kaito again after the end of Detective Conan; meanwhile, we still get a new story every 3/4 years during pauses of Detective Conan. The Phantom Lady arc has already been animated in episode 9 plus the first minutes of episode 10. Yes, in case you are wondering, the manga chapters are animated out of order. By the way, the number 1412 was not mentioned at all in the animated Phantom Lady storyline, which makes sense since it wasn't even mentioned in the manga version of the Phantom Lady storyline to begin with.
