Frankly, since there is a hard quota on the number of foreign films they are willing to accept, the government official could just consider the film a waste of a slot that could be used for something else. The profit of a film accepted in China is split 70/30, as in 70% of the money made goes to Chinese companies. So the government has an incentive to not accept films they think will flop.

Given how Hollywood puts a lot of importance in the Chinese Market indicates that even 30% is enough to keep them interested.

Crazy to imagine how much more money if they got more than 30%

I personally won't waste my money going to see this movie, not because of the female cast, but because of how it got turned into a political issue to go see it and the closemindedness of the director and Sony Pictures (I like to differentiate the branches) and their treatment of the bery same people that THEY NEED (a.k.a. the fans) to make this movie successful, among many other factors. Plus I'm tired of remakes as a whole don't fix something that isn't broken, and never disregard the legacy already established to feed your own ego (coughPaulFeigAmyPascalcough).

Well it's sitting in the 70% which means it's pretty good but that doesn't mean it could be a box office hit.

But yeah it's kinda annoying that the Director had to go and turn it into a political thing when they had nothing to worry about with the critics.

Just watching that first 1st video, and it just makes me cringe how shes telling its full of man hate. I mean, I kinda expected it, but actually seeing it brought up at truth, Its kinda sad. I watched some of Angry Joes video yesturday and he was ripping it to shreds.

Guess they really wanted a movie to peg men as misogynists.

Oh... GROAN.... What kind of beating and horrific child-abuse was this poor-kid threatened with to spout all this pre-scripted CRAP that he obviously dosen't know the meanings of, much less be sincere about?

This very making of this video required child abuse, pure and simple.

Well, anyone that bothered to watch any of the countless videos I posted would already know that in them are some reviewers that already made it clear that kids might like it due to its simplistic take on humor and the flashy effects (many of those that hate it even say so). But hey, if someone wants to be ignorant and not notice something that simple being said in countless reviews (just like how there are many people ignorant of the true reason why the movie is not liked), then what can you do? (Insert here picture of Reggie shrugging)

It's pretty sad they need to hide behind an innocent kid to push an agenda, whoever made that video needs to ask themselves, was there really any need to use an innocent kid to "get back at the films critics"? All they are doing is trying to get a rise out of the loud minority on the internet (a.k.a. the trolls) that will hate on anything that moves or makes a comment regardless of who they are and then use that as ammo in "the fight against mysoginy" and make it seem like it was everyone that was doing so. Just leave the kids out of this, they have nothing to do with it.

Kids will like ANYTHING unless its gore or porn or French movies. And they will defend it to the death. Until they grow up and find it embarrassing. I mean I used to like Flash Gordon movie and watched it every day, till I got older and saw how campy it was, with Queen score being its only saving grace. I also used to like Disney's Robin Hood til I grow out talking animals and watched the movie starring Costner and Freeman.

True that. Kids really will love just about anything that's moving in front of them . That's kind of how bad movies do so well at times. Not a big fan of the CG-Alvin and the Chipmunks or the Smurfs movies, but kids will love those things regardless.

I'm sure there are kids who enjoyed this movie because it does have visuals they can get behind and attempts at humor .

Ghostbuster managed to make $46 million in their opening weekend, but failed to take #1 spot from Secret Life of Pets and, knowing what's coming out next week, I don't think GB will ever take the first spot.

Well, it made more money than I thought it would, but $46M is still pretty embarrassing for all the promotion they've put into it. If it were any other movie, I'd say someone's head is going to roll at Sony, but this being a presidential election year with a female candidate running, they'll just chalk it up to "misogyny" and consider it a charitable donation to "social justice".

They probably won't let Feig near a special effects film for a while, though.

Not to mention that $46M number is an estimate. Don't be surprised if it's quietly lowered some time early next week...

Yes. And while die-hard Trekkies who hated the first two recent ones will hate this one whether they see it or not, this one should actually be more relatable to the general public than the previous two. It's got a popular director (the Fast and Furious guy) and lots of well-done special effects in the trailer (not overdone, like the movie in the thread). Also looks like there might be a bit more character interaction as well, from the trailers, so we'll see how that goes.
