I don't see the story lasting past the arc to be honest. Gon and Killua did what they set out to do. Kurapika is getting what he wants and Leorio is working under a real good doctor, so... what's left aside from visiting the Dark Continent?

I'm expecting the arc to have a bad ending, and one final one focusing on Gon and Killua. Although with Togashi's schedule, who knows how far it can go.

I don't see any way Togashi is planning to end the series without tying things up with Gon & Killua. Maybe they won't factor into this arc, and maybe he'll never get there with his health problems. But I just can't imagine his intention is to leave things hanging the way they are.

Yeah because Leorio and Ging aren't characters in this story at all that need to have their own wrapped up arcs. Remember, Ging kickstarted this whole arc. It's probably going to end with him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Leorio, along with Kurapika, have their arcs finished when the ship arrives at the dark continent. They'll probably still make appearances in the manga, but their main story mostly stagnates.

Ging needs to meet his grandfather (or father, one or the other) along with Gon, who is probably alive somewhere on the Dark Continent.

Gon is the protagonist and he and Killua are the two main characters in the series, and their situations are both in complete limbo. There’s no way Togashi intends to leave it that way forever. Anybody else - Ging, Leorio, Kurpaika, whoever - is not of equal importance to the series in total. They’ll have their stories told but if Togashi’s health permits it, he’ll loop back to Gon and Kil eventually.

Gon is just a past. Ging should be the main character for HxH now.

I agree. No way Togashi doesn't intend to go back to Gon and Killua at some point.

I don't really agree, honestly.

This series, in the way it's set up around adventures, can really have anyone be the protagonist. Gon, Kurapika, Ging, could all make sense as the protagonist in the context of this work.

Clearly, at the beginning of this series, Gon was the protagonist. But as time has gone on, he's taken a back seat on multiple occasions, so I wouldn't necessarily say the series is surely going to loop back to Gon and Killua eventually. (Though I hope it does, cause I love Gon)

The series originally was a story about a boy searching for his father. The story should have ended when Gon found Ging.

I won't say it should have. But Gon losing his power while accomplishing his goal does seem like a good stopping point since he'd sacrificed his childhood and innocence to avenge Kaito and succeeded while learning he reincarnated and getting a second chance. Most people don't get that chance.

Honestly the story can go on forever, and I think Togashi designed it that way.

Gon, whether he comes back or not, still had an ending to his arc.

That would have left at least one major plotline unresolved. That always leaves a bad taste in people's mouth. I would have accepted it if it had been Togashi's choice (not that I could do much about it anyway), but he decided to keep going and even greatly expand the world. I'm glad he did it, it feels like he still has tons of ideas left.

The optimal storytelling direction would have been to close all the loose ends before Gon met his father. Togashi fucked up by having their meeting take place too early.

But The Small One is right, the natural ending for the story was the moment boy and father met each other.

I think it’s more like Togashi wanted to let the fans see Ging meet Gon right away rather than wait however long it would have taken until he got through another arc.

It felt to me like Togashi wanted to move away from Gon and Ging and move onto, quite literally, an entire new world.

I'm going to be honest, while I can't say much about what's going to happen in the current arc, beyond reaching the Dark Continent, I do foresee Gon getting the ability to use Nen back, possibly with a different focus (either becoming a Specialist, or something other than a perfectly simple Enhancement user), and likely ends up with him meeting Don Freecs, probably as he comes back with Journey to the New World: West Side.

As for whether or not Killua would go with him, I'm honestly feeling like he wouldn't. Even in a situation where they both go to the Dark Continent, I don't see them both travelling together like they used to. I see Killua sticking to Alluka (and here I thought her name is Akillua) and looking after her first and foremost. I can't see Gon actively following along on that journey (nor Killua accepting him following even if Gon offered). The only real issue I can think of is giving Gon a good end goal for going to the Dark Continent.

But all that's quite far into the future of the story, real timewise.

New chapter is out. It looks like that princess, Fugetsu, who didn't have any guards is actually a natural born Nen-user from the look of it. Or her Guardian Beast is at work.

Eh, that guy Kurapika was speaking with on the phone is a total asshat, IMO. Too darn stubborn for his own good. I kinda hope the assassin targets him next. On the other hand, I was highly amused to see those two guards casually standing by the 8th prince's bed while he's busy having his own orgy, heh. Benjamin's guy even thinks that prince might use his nen beast to build a harem..... which I personally kinda approve of, heh.

BTW, concerning the lack of Gon/Killua: My take on it is, since Togashi spent a near-decade focusing on them during the ant/election arcs, he'll spend a similar amount of time focusing on Kurapika to balance things out. With that being said, I suppose we can expect to see those two back in the plot roughly 5-6 years from now, lol.

I think calling HxH "a story about a boy looking for his father" and that the story should have ended when he did, rather shortsighted. There is absolutely no reason for the story not to evolve beyond that, and it did long before Gon even met his father.

I don't even see Gon as the protagonist anymore. He might become one once again at some point in the future, or he might not. But Gon and Killua currently have zero hanging threads, so.... It's not absolutely necessary. He hasn't been the protagonist since uhhh... Idk exactly when, but I know I didn't view him as such during the arc in the Korea analogue.

The show has had an ensemble cast for a long time now. There have been times in the past where Gon has been out of focus for extended periods of time, and that didn't hurt the story at all.
