With regards to:
Depth By looking at the signature I can see the following layers: 1. Background Layer (bottom) 2. Render Layer (second layer) 3. C4D layer (either below or above text layer) 5. text layer (my guess is that this layer is above the C4D layer) The signature looks generally flat and the only section that gives any sort of depth IMO is the text. There are many ways to add depth to a signature, it's not just one technique. lighting, flow and effects can all control the depth of a signature. Depth is important if you want to draw the viewer into your signature and also gives is more 'punch' than a signature without depth. I shall use a couple of my old works to show you what I mean. Sig w/ some sort of depth Non-existent depth As you can see from the first signature the depth gives it real 'pulling' power. ignore the fact that one is obviously got better effects such as vector shapes etc etc and look for the depth. The shattered signature draws in the viewer as such. If you compared the two, IMO there's an obvious winner. Flow Your flow control is getting better but may I suggest flipping the render horizontally and moving fate to the left of the signature so that the light source is behind her (I'll comment light in a moment) IMO this would help with the flow as her hair is flowing in one direction while the light is flowing in another and the C4D is just causing mayhem with the flow of light that you have going. If you get her hair flowing in the same direction as the light, flow would help but I don't know what the overall feel of the signature would be. Light Lighting is good. Some pointers, if the render is placed in front of the light source (from the viewers P.O.V) then darken the render a little bit at places where the light wouldn't usually reach. A good example and tip here would be to gently use a soft brush, set it to black, opacity at around 30% (play around with it), set size to about 10 (play around again) and then gently brush over the render that would be shadowed like the right side of fate's face and/or parts of the cape. Saying that now, if you look at the shadows that the render is casting the light source is off. Look at under Fate's chin, there's a shadow and look under her hair line...there's a shadow where it meets her eyes. This suggests that the light source is above her and not next to her as your signature suggests it is. (fixing this would also help with the flow) C4D Rule of using 3D images in signature, do not go over the top with them, sticking them into a signature without thinking about the flow and how it will feel with the signature is just not a good step to take. The 3D in this signature just dominates the signature as it covers a lot of it. Erase some of the C4D that covers dear Fate and show her off more. See my shattered signature as posted above, I used the C4D as a background but I made sure it flowed well and I only used about 2% of the entire C4D (this way the flow will be better as there's less clutter of shapes) Focal point If you work on the other aspects I have already pointed out then the focal point shouldn't be too hard to define. Text text is good, good font choice, nice effect and a nice placement. Nothing I can suggest to improve on. General Improvements A border can do wonders, try the wide screen borders I used to use all the time, if not try some Polaroid style borders. A border helps viewers to focus their eyes on the focal point a little bit more. Disclaimer I'm not here to show off my own work and my so called skills. I am here to help people like dear DKZ here. |

Kitty nuked my thread
Ah well, I'm still taking time to get back into the grove but thanks for those wonderful tips. It really helps to see what others think and I appreciate the advice And I guess fate chan will have to wait for later since I just can't help but make another one on a potential to be favorite character Not exactly the best but something to pass the time between revision.

I know very well who Mio is (since I do watch K-on) but I'm just saying that it isn't true for my avatar
In fact, I'm sure someone will love the full image :3 @ Cierra, great pictures, I'll see what I can do with them later ^^'

Oooh Cats played it too? Or are you just saying it based on looks?
*Cough* Virgilia ;______; Personally I pretty much like the entire cast...goddamn Ryukishi07 is a genius at making the readers empathize with the characters. Female wise...it is a tossle between Natsuhi and 00
