First episode is up on Crunchyroll.
Oh man, Nagatoro is hilarious and goes all out on the teasing. No holding back at all and pushing Nagaoto right to his back. That fucking smile LOL I bet the VA had a lot of fun playing her character. This episode took every opportunity for Nagatoro's personality to shine. A very entertaining episode with that kiss tease. Nagatoro had wayyy too much fun. Not going to lie, I think this is the funniest first episode I've seen this Spring season.

We start with a calm seaside view and then ease into what might be the most sadistic of all teasing romcoms .
Y'know, I really feel for the guy. He goes to the library to get some quite time only to find four loud, gossipy, girls who keep staring at him, and then they stumble on the manga art he does in his spare time and make him feel so embarrassed. And all this is before Nagatoro stars in on him . Nagatoro is a bit of a wild child. Attractive, spirited, forward, boisterous, and ready to tear her Senpai down emotionally until he's in tears. It seems at first glance that she's only out to break her Senpai by teasing him and hitting him where it hurts, be it his lack of a love life, his art, or just how awkward and sensitive he is (and that hits home), but there are times where you can see her look at him with genuine fondness, and she still dries his tears up and apologizes (even if how genuine an apology it is might be up to interpretation) . She's definitely good looking, and might actually like him, but I do feel for what Senpai has to go through with her . Poor Senpai has been bullied so much that he's basically become numb to it, but he doesn't hold a grudge against Nagatoro either because he's used to it or he realizes she isn't that bad. I do feel like he deserves a nice, quite, life, instead of all this teasing . Blue bra, huh? Not a bad choice, Nagatoro-san . I guess Senpai needs to learn how to draw girls' thighs .

That was a really good first episode. Poor Senpai though, made to cry twice. Aaaaaand he liked it. Dude's such a M.^^
I get him though, you remember the laughs and words for a very long time but you forget the faces of who said and laughed at you very quickly. Seems like he doesn't want to forget Nagatoro, so yeah, totally a crush. Also a new-found fetish for both of them, lol.

I'm glad they got this far in the first episode. If they had stopped before Nagatoro gave her name/asked him why he wasn't getting mad at her despite her being horrible to him, it'd have felt very... odd.
Though I totally imagined a different voice for Nagatoro. Guess I got confused in my head from the commercial two years ago for the manga voiced by Kurosawa Tomoyo. Now, onto the true fun! Also, they put the arm wiggling in the ED. That makes me happy. |

Nagatoro being so attractive likely plays a huge part in why senpai doesn't mind her company despite her being nothing but a jerk to him. The rest is probably him being a bit of an M and feeling too lonely.

I really don't know if we can call this pair an M and S. I've seen Ms. We have Ms this season. This guy doesn't seem to enjoy being teased like that, he just enjoys being with her personally. And the same with her: she likes being with him. Overall I liked this, but again I wish they would've found some way to include the after-chapter bits (single images after each chapter in the book versions). These show more clearly that Nagatoro is really aiming more for light, maybe flirtatious teasing but keeps going overboard (frequently has her saying "I went too far").
Also, I wonder why they changed her initial reaction. In the manga, she didn't come and pick the pages up while looking at him like that. Instead, she was looking at the manga along with everyone else, but while the rest were laughing she was clearly impressed and interested. It gave the feeling that she kind of admired his talent and dreams. |
