Oldies are not bad at all... although most that I can remember are robot anime (yes include doraemon in it) and there aren't really moe characters in it. I think it's in 90s when the moe thing started and began promoting eye candy and fan service characters.. not sure about it though.

Back to topic, its a shame that I haven't watched much of Miyazaki's films yet. That's the reason why I'm not familiar with nausicaa. I think I've only watched 2 Miyazaki films atm.. Howls moving castle and spirited away, and both are just recent animations.

I was one of the one that did not immediately jump on the Ghibli bandwagon. The first Ghibli films I watched were Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. Out of those, I didn't like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle was just below average, and Princess Mononoke was decent. So my first impression of Ghibli was pretty bad. The next two films, Nausicaa and Grave of the Fireflies, were excellent films and in my opinion the ones that kept my interest in Ghibli. Without those, I would probably never have watched another Ghibli film as long as I live, so that's why I have high regards for Nausicaa.

And of course, that led me to watch some of the best anime I've ever watched, Kiki's Delivery Service and Laputa.

When it comes to Miyazaki, the film that describes him the most aptly is Porco Rosso (his love of flying + airplanes, his resentment of adults and humanity in general [hence the male lead being a pig], his hatred of war, the dreamer romance of the time period, his love of a world 50-150 years ago). Howl's Moving Castle was reasonable but he rewrote it by adding some elements that weren't in the original novel and shouldn't have been added, but Calcifer made it worth the watch. Spirited Away made me want to delve more into watching anime. Princess Mononoke was the one I enjoyed the least, as it seemed very disjointed in story and plot, which is rather ulike Miyazaki. Wasn't too keen on Totoro. Laputa was okay. Nausicaa was good and had an intriguing world concept and yes, Nausicaa was actually regarded in retrospect as one of the first characters that defined moe. Kiki's Delivery Service is my favourite - great female lead, romantic time setting, a good 'coming of age' tale with well established character relations.

Castle of Count Cagliostro was also a gem - not a Ghibli film (actually, neither was Nausicaa come to think of it. Laputa was their first one and Kiki's was their first hit.). Miyazaki also directed a series in the early 80s called Sherlock Hound. I watched that when I was 5. That was just hilarious. ^^ 1880 London with dogs/wolves instead of people and cops who seemed immortal despite the ridiculous things they did - gold.

Good exhibition match, guys. Thanks for paying homage to some classics to those in charge.

Yeah, Princess Mononoke was obviously the "odd-one-out" in all of the Miyazaki films. That's why I liked it so much. It was more "eye-candy" (ie. action) than the usual "exploring traditions with weird symbolisms" blah blah boring anime. But the story and plot wasn't anywhere near disjointed. In fact, it's arguably the easiest Miyazaki film to follow, aside from the simplistic Kiki's Delivery Service. So let's remove all of this elitism air from the discussion because Princess Mononoke was just a good, straightforward, and enjoyable movie.

As suspected, Nanoha v C.C. was the close one of the round.

Chiaki is bottom of the table.................*facepalm*

Well done Nanoha. I expected a narrow loss but you managed to get a narrow win. Shana actually managed to outperform my expectations which is a bit scary considering how strong I already think Shana is. Other characters that did better than I expected were Yuki and Kurimu. Based on their Aquamarine 4 performance I bumped Yuki up in my rankings and bumped Kurimu down a bit. I think I should have left Kurimu alone and bumped Yuki up more. I'm not ready to say Yuki can beat Shana or Hinagiku, but it seems like she's in range to take out Misaka. Maybe that's something we'll see in Aquamarine 7. =D

Yuki is the eternal 'sleeper hit'. She can potentially beat anyone and beats almost anyone. I doubt I'll ever understand why though.

Well, Even though Yuki's the silent type she's really got something up her sleeve to take off her rivals.

The hidden badass. The "must protect" even though she doesn't need protecting...usually. Some call her a Rei clone...but she's more like a perfected Rei. instead of being a character you weren't suppose to like, she's the character you are suppose to like and has probably the coolest scenes.

Also I really liked the tea scene before she opened up on Kyon about being an alien. but I suppose I have a food/tea related ceremony fetish (damn you Karate Kid 2) I just like watching Yuki pour tea and place that cup in front of Kyon with her tiny hands and that Minorin giving an almost sexy/pleading voice to Yuki's first real question to Kyon (about liking the tea as oppose to the earlier one on if he'd read the book yet).

And Dissapearance will reenforce Yuki and Haruhi. but perhaps not for the reasons one might suspect.

And despite the predictions, it seems I was right on Maetel...likely due to her having more recent material and more material in general...or a better image...for those that just image vote.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that was a bit stunned by it. My conclusions were:

1. More people have been voting in this than in the prelims.
2. Those that voted for Konata in the prelims voted for Nanoha this time.
3. Nanoha movie.
4. C.C. is more adult-like and adults generally get smashed in ISML.
