Spoiler for Episode 20 mini summary and thoughts:

*Today's episode mainly focused on Kida and Katoda&gang at Russian Sushi.
*They are talking about the Dollars, Blue Square, and Saki.
*At the mention of Blue Square Walker breaks his chopsticks, opens his eyes, and nearly stabs Kida in the hand with the broken chopsticks. Walker really is scary guy when mad.
*The group continues talking when a knife I think thrown by the cook hits the wall. This suprises the group.
*Simon brings the group their sushi then leaves. I loved the group's reaction when tasting the sushi.
*Later, Kida and Izaya talk. Kida looks very uncomfortable talking with him. Izaya brings up Mikado in their talk. Izaya is trying to tell Kida that Mikado is somehow involved with the Dollars.
*Katoda, Erika, and Walker looking at everything related to anime. Erika fangirling about boy love was funny.
*Mikado, Anri, Selty, and Izaya are in the chatroom again.
*After school Mikado, Kida, and Anri are at the front gate when the high schooler who is in the dollars (Takeguchi I think) tells them something about the Dollars.
*Mikado starts looking worried, which doesn't go unnoticed by Kida.
*Later on that night same Takeguchi is beaten up by the YS.
*Next day at school, Kida tells Mikado and Anri that Takeguchi was attacked last night and leaves.



Episode was alright, just wish their was more action. Looks like more Yellow Scarves mayhem will be in the next episode. Also, Seiji and Mika appear (I was wondering when these two would appear again after their around the city shagging lol).

Looks like a very interesting episode once I scanned it. Can't wait for subs tomorrow.

Judging by the preview, Mikado is already suspicious of Kida. Looks like a gang war will start in the last few episodes..

(Woah, the series only has 4 more episodes left. Then we have to wait for the Ova's all the way in August ).

Kida and the otakugang had a talk and kida-kun got a number of someone who knows the leader of dollars and he was surprised when he saw the number because he knows it better than anyone. That number of orihaya izaya.
He also heard who is the leader from izaya then the yellow scarves are getting more and more brutal on attacking dollars member. poor guy getting beaten to a pulp by the color gang just because of being a member of dollars.

Just an average episode for me but it all connects for the future episodes and it's getting more and more interesting.

This was a good episode, but not great. It did continue to add to the buildup of what may culminate into an all out brawl between the three gangs.

Up to now, I'm rather lost at the reason for Yellow Scarves wanting to fight Dollars in the first place. My only guess is a power struggle to see who'd be more dominant, but I'm not entirely sure. After seeing Takeguchi, a classmate of Kida, Anri, and Mikado, get beaten up, the Yellow Scarves are getting more and more violent as the series progresses. And, in it all, I don't think Anri wants to fight so I'm thinking she'll be the mediator among the three given the fact that she has members within YS and possibly Dollars.

Is it for fame? Power? Jealously? Revenge? It's one thing they haven't explained fully yet.

The one other thing that caught my eye is this shot in the episode:

This is where Walker and Erika are playing mock fights with the figurines. I may be thinking too much into this, but does anyone think of those three to be symbolic of the three groups in Durarara?

Shana = Dollars? Or perhaps Slashers? (Though Shana wasn't shown wielding her token katana.)

Horo = Yellow Scarves (Seems obvious with the yellow flag.)

Taiga = Slashers? (Maybe because of the wooden katana.)

Poor guy getting beaten up? He got his arm broken by a metal bat! Really not happy at all with that kind of violence. Particularly since he is part of the innocent bunch.

Two reasons, IIRC in ep13 Izaya warns Mikado about Yellow Scarves dislike of the Dollars due to the massive influence they gained during the time YS were inactivity. The second reason was that many of they comrades were attacked by one of the Slashers during Shizuo's and Anri's showdown with the other Saikas ep17, there was online article mentioning over 50 victims. This causes the YS who believe the possible Dollars-Slasher connection rumors to claim that the Dollars are out of control and want avenge their friends. I didn't pick this up unil a rewatch.

So in part it's this both a pretext for a turf war and revenge for the Yellow Scarves, against the Dollars and Slasher.

The Dollars themselves didn't care about the YS until recently when their being attacked.

Those sound like pretty good guesses though Shana and Taiga should be reversed oddly enough. lol

I couldn't believe Izaya told Kida what he did.

I wanted more of a reaction out of Kida though, I literally thought he would have a nervous breakdown.

The episode was absolutely perfect though, and Erika was really cute without her hat.

I think Shana should be representing the Dollars. Out of the three, she lives both a life of a regular schoolgirl, and another as a Flamehaze. o 3o Like Horo's flag, I think the wooden sword is symbolic of the Slashers. Or I'm thinking too much.

o 3o Erika needs to take her hat off more. So does Dotachin. And Yumacchi scares me. A lot.

Other than that this episode was great. But I wish Kida would just speak to Mikado.

Somehow Kida talking to Izaya seemed less insecure and desperate than in the novel. Well, the mood was set up extremely different, so I don't mind XD

The chat room just gets more and more comical the more oblivious people are to who they're talking to

I'm sure kida was a lot more shocked than he looked when he found out about mikado. Izaya also planted seeds of doubt by playing the fact that mikado seems to be doing so well despite all of the crap that's happening around him. I'm sure kida's gonna break down sooner or later about that since he would feel that mikado should care more about anri and would want to see more concern from mikado. His displeasure with mikado was shown again at the end of the episode when he didn't seem more concerned about the dollars member getting lynched...I'd say the build up for kida is going well, now I'm curious to see if mikado will find out about anri without her knowing. The trio wouldn't be complete without mikado getting freaked out by his friend as well

Izaya knows for sure. It's not like you can hide anything from that "informant"

Though I agree with it that the chatroom is getting more comical but in a way it's divided in 2 party. Mikado and izaya and celty and anri. Celty probably know too on who is she talking too and but for mikado I'm not sure but the essence of dollars when he establish it is, his talking in a way his not involve or rather they are trying to keep secrets on each other that would only lead into huge misunderstanding.

Believe it or not, Walker's speculation is actually not that off. Both Simon and Denis were former member of Russian Special forces. After the fall of Soviet Union, they had to relocate themselves elsewhere, and they choose Japan.

Also, that scene in the novel is from Kida's point of view. So, the mood is totally different. And they missed the opportunity to show the utterly evil Izaya picture that accompanies the novel on that section.
