Maybe the Desler that did or didn't get blown up or escape on the bridge or core ship was just another double!?!?!

And is no one concerned about all the blond Gamilas bodyguard chicks that may have been blown up?? Who will fetch the wine and fire indiscriminately down hallways when Desler (or his double, clone, zombie, or cyber remote presence) board your ship?

Has anyone read the latest issue of Hobby Japan? 2chan said the 1/500 might not have an opening gimmick for the Cosmo Falcon hangar, which may be a deal breaker for me.

Region A BD can still be used in Japan. Region 1 DVDs...not so much.

But the Japanese BD are Region Free anyway.

The only issue I have with their news is that they say there will be 6 discs with 4 episodes each and that there are a total of 26 episodes. Are they actually going to sell seven discs with 2 on the first disc like they did in Japan, or will there be more on one or two discs to get those two additional episodes out? (The older Star Blazers DVDs had four episodes per disc save that the first and last disc would have five episodes to get the rest of the story out without a two disc DVD).

I'm in Europe though. Different region from the US (and Japan sadly for BluRays).

Yeah, I'm also wondering what's up with that and how will the quality of the picture be affected.

I've been thinking of saving up for the Japanese BluRays lately but it would still take away most of my anime budget for an entire year to get them

The message is a little Engrish, so it might not be entirely accurate. It also suggests that what they are selling is the TV version of the show. If so, this would be different from the currently sold Japanese BD, as those are the theatrical versions of the show (mostly). It would mean these DVDs and BD would have the two TV OP songs and the three ED songs. Plus a few cuts here and there for TV length.

It would make it collectible for the Japanese as it would be another version, and not just the same thing they purchased in Japan. Though it would be inferior. It would have the Yamato Allstars version of the theme song and such.

But these are unknown details based on Engrish text that could be entirely incorrect aside from the dates and announcing that the show will be on DVD and BD in the Americas.

For collectors package means a lot, so Starblazers is not Yamato, but the prospect of the BD quality TV opening and endings is good. I am not sure whether they will make some minor improvements to the quality of the episodes. Obviously, the transparent Yuki warp scene is likely to be the TV version.

The subs might be a bit different, less literal and uses Tachyon instead of wave motion.

The new Japanese movie might be released just when Starblazer 2199 finishes.

But then the announcement is very limited. We can read a lot into it...

...There are 18 days left.

They did a show like that for an hour or so for every episode of Yamato 2199 with a few Yamato Girls (mostly one that cosplayed as Yamamoto) on Nicovideo. It probably works better in Japanese to a Japanese audiance. Tones work better for Asian languages while English doesn't use tones much aside from questions, exclaimations, emphasis, and sarcasm. Well and emotions, but that's not a changed in the language while from what I understand, tones in Japanese can change the meaning of a word to a greater extent.

Wow, that price seems rather extreme for a US release.

It works much better in Japanese.
I don't know why.
Maybe it's because the English sounded forced? Artificial? Not natural.
While in Japanese it flows.
Call it personal bias, but the English version seemed clunky to me.

That release is weird... Wouldn't it make more sense to release the 6 episodes in Volume 1? That way the "chapters" of the japanese release would be kept more or less intact. Personally, without an english dub, i don't see the point of waiting another year to have the show. Sure, it's a bit cheaper than the japanese release. But i thing that lower price tag will be reflected in the product. Doubt it'll have an art booklet or be as lavish as the original release. And with the japanese Blu-Ray being region free... well, the choice is made.

I'll need to revisit the episodes to see if the structure starting at 4 until disc 6 would be viable storytelling.

It might. Though it will present the ending of different story arcs than the orignal release does. And they wll have seeing ending type shots in the middle episode, but that could be done in any episode anyway.

So what do we have?

Disc 1:
1-4
Battle of Pluto to Saturn (Tale of the Heroic Yukikaze and its fate?)

Disc 2:
5-8
Attack on Pluto Base to Schultz final battle (Fate of the Pluto Base staff arc?)

Disc 3:
9-12
Alter to Cliffhanger with UX-01 (Introduction of Gamilons to Yamato's crew arc?)

Disc 4:
13-16
The Wolf hunts Yamato to the Mutany at Beeland (Mutiny arc? Or Kodia grows up?)

Disc 5:
17-20
Beeland Warp Gate to the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster (Yamato penetrates the Gamilas Empire?)

Disc 6:
21-26
Prison Planet to the Return (Fall of Dessler arc and the Resolution)
