Well, I'd like to throw my hat (in this case, banner) into the ring:

What do you think, sirs?

Shin_Gami: Try saving your banner as a .gif, it might shrink the size down without losing the current quality.

Nice usage of the leaf pattern at the sides...it seems to be pretty difficult to get a good-looking fade from autumn colors to the purple that's required for the bar; going ahead and making a sharp delineation like that actually looks better, I think. Wish I'd thought of it...

Text, centered to lower bottom, if meant to be seen, should be a bit more readable, as it seems to be blurring too much into the grasses.

That's intentional...I wanted it to be something that wasn't too obvious at first glance, but could be still be read by a viewer who's taking a second look and has noticed that "Hey, is that something down there too?" I'm not sure if I can really make that work, or if it just ends up looking like bad text, though...

shini gami ~ owh they both look stunning but my only complaint is that the left side of your first one doesnt quite blend with the blue color of the banner

I crapped up one just now, but I think it fails for two reasons:
a. the bright block colours don't work well with the faded wash
b. It doesn't look like Kairin at all!!!!! (so it'll get disqualified.)

I like the two different sides individually though, so maybe I'll figure out some way of making good use of them. 60's style Technicolor Kairin, anyone? Hmm...

Spoiler for I realised these are wrong!:

Oh, and I realised another thing -

c. It doesn't have the word "forums" on. Eheh. -_-

edit2: I just realised Kairin has elf ears. Now I really want to stab myself! Forget this banner entry then.
Here are the ones with the rectified ear.

Colour wash ver.
(27.2 KB)

Brown wash ver.
(27 KB)

No wash ver.
(27.4 KB)

Which should I go for? (I'll only pick one to submit of course...)

edit3: I made another banner using the same colour patches. This time it looks more like Kairin!

(27.3 KB)

Best viewed with warmer monitor settings.

Haha Wao, that's awesome. I find myself in this position a lot it seems. I tend to disagree with what people say. For example, you said the first one doesn't look like Kairin, I think it does. Infact moreso than the last one to be honest. I mean yeah, her ear isn't as long as it should be but I wouldn't get hung up over little things like that. I like the water colour feel of the first one and think it's really great. If I had to suggest one thing, it would be to remove the 2nd nostril on her left. It seems out of place to me.

Anyways, I think this is a wonderful sketch of Kairin. I was wondering if you had a full version or if you just drew what there is for the banner only.

Great banners so far, everyone! Keep 'em coming!

Eh, I think I'll leave it in because it feels more normal to me (I drew the nostrils in before the end of the nose, in which case it looks like it makes more sense). But if I'm the only one who thinks that way maybe I'll just remove it for the heck of it.

Personally I like the 2nd one probably because I just think it fits in better with the bright pop circles. Though I personally like the feeling from the first drawing more.

There isn't a full-version sketch; I just drew her in within the boundaries of the banner size. Just my luck it turned out decent (and my tablet didn't majorly screw up)

Aah, I don't care about the money (I can do with it, but it's too much of a bother splittingi t up) but I have to remind you that what you see is all there is of the illustration, and it's not at a particularly high res or anything (and for the first 3, the part behind the words is really messed up )

But if you want it then you can just have teh whole psd, I can't be bothered to make a separate psd... I've uploaded it on TurboUpload, tell me if it doesn't work.

EDIT: Ooh, but please do tell me which one I should submit, the colour one or the non-colour one or the brown one...

wao -

Of the three, Colour wash ver. appears to look best.

Note also that even though they don't say "Forums" on them, it wouldn't surprise me if they found their way to the main page one day.

Shini_GamI -

Submission 1 - v.2 appears to be doing a better job in blending in the sides with by using that white.
