Or they could kill Meiya AND Tsukiyomi off in the Original Hive, so no one would be left to hold Takeru accountable before he leaves on his spaceship. wee. * - So we can't bring the actual Royal Guard regiment into the Hive with us because it will make it look like Japan is conspiring with the UN, but it's TOTALLY cool for us to still use the Takemikazuchis as our jazzy upgrades that everyone ELSE on the mission will be able to see when we're classified pilots that Yuuko and Rocketmoto refuse to release the names of, making it look even MORE like Japan and the UN are in bed together and the UN is actively trying to cover it up? Yeah, fuck off, Kouki. You seriously needed some time to think that one through. Go watch Pacific Rim or something. |

Or more likely Tsukuyomi just blabs some samurai bullshit about atonement forever because nothing can kill her.
Also the fourth Alternative plan was already Japan-pioneered project, under the UN far east umbrella or not. They were already supplying all the machines and personnel and junk. I think if anyone was going to draw conclusions about them using Japanese machines meaning they're conspiring and shit (they really were conspiring though?) they'd have done it then. The contrived "can't let nobody but the heroines in there cuz they gotta do it alone like the tropes want them to" bullshit was more about that they would have to kick all the Americans who were there for the G-candy factory out of the Hive but not kick the Imperial Royal Guard unit out of the hive. That is what would have looked like a conspiracy with the Empire. This way it's just rationalized away as "local UN base seized nearby machines in good condition" or "Japan provides machines like they were always doing but they're providing especially good machines now since this is such a stupid mission". (Why didn't they just not plan to kick the Americans out of the Hive? If you keep trying to backstab your business partners nobody will want to make deals with you ever again) Pacific Rim has its own share of question marks besides but that's fake 2010s-20s politics not fake 50s politics anyway. |

The fact they're bringing along a bunch of Imperial-gifted elite TSFs along with the American team isn't the issue here. It's how they're bringing along a bunch of Imperial-gifted elite TSFs and then being secretive assholes about who is piloting them.
Which, from the viewpoint of an outsider, makes it look even more like the UN is assigning the actual Imperial Guard to complete the mission while trying to cover it up and look neutral. In every possible scenario here, it would have been a smarter move to bring Tsukuyomi along without any attempt to disguise it. Yeah, sure, it technically still would have provided fuel for UN-Japan conspiracy fire, but it would have been less fuel than the mindnumbing way they actually pulled it off. That's what I was trying to get across before. That's what makes Meiyu/Chizuru's HURR U.N. MUST DO IT BY THEMSELVES speech completely retarded and fall apart when you really consider the connotations of that particular team taking the Takemikazuchis. And, yeah, you're absolutely right. From a meta standpoint, the only reason it was written that way is because the plot dictated it HAD to be the unlikely goofy cadets from the beginning of the game (and no one else) who end up saving the world. But this is a case where the trope doesn't fit the context they're trying to force it into. Also consider the following. 1. The ending to Unlimited states Meiya still owned the purple Takemi and it remained unused on the base two years after the October-December 2001 time frame Unlimited and Alternative occur in. BY DECREE OF THE EMPEROR(/shogun), it's hers by law and she can do whatever the fuck she wants with it even if she doesn't want it. So basically the entire chain of dialogue in Chapter 10 of Alternative that leads to all of the girls getting the Takemis, where Meiya has to PLEAD with Tsukuyomi for PERMISSION just to pilot the purple one, makes no sense to begin with and contradicts its own previously established Yamato Damashii bullshit. 2. Even before the Takemis became a plot contrivance, Yuuko's plan called for Sumika buggering with the American team's radar so they would go aimlessly searching for a G-Element stockpile that doesn't actually exist. Okay, if you're already going to fuck over your rivals and there's no way around it, then there's no room to say "herp derp well golly gee we can't possibly do this thing that might piss them off." You cut your fucking losses and you do whatever it takes to improve your chances of succeeding. Just bring the god damn royal guards with you. 3. oops, the entire American escort team conveniently gets killed off-camera five seconds after the orbital drop and ends up having nothing to do with anything that happens in the Original Hive. So all that shit talk about what we can and can't do around those wacky Americans instantly becomes a giant non-issue. At the end of the day, there was no point in bringing it up in the first place (aside from maybe foreshadowing Sumika's ability to hack radio signals, but that could have been less shoehorned in itself). face it, it's awful writing bro. nerds.
