Honestly, every YGO! protagonists, more or less, followed the basic format.

Which is ..... show starts --> wild rival (or some kind of antagonistical character) appears!! --> the MC duels the person --> plot introduced --> special powers and **** start popping out --> blah blahblah.... --> power of friendship!! --> profit!! --> season/show ends.

A female protagonist might end the cycle in some way, but I guess guy characters are the ways to go in YGO franchise.
Michael I was dead serious a female protag would be more interesting. But this one looks awful and the main reason I got turned off was that pig.

Two new promo pictures with Yuya and his duel disk:

It seems that Yuya will be pretty serious protagonist. I like it.

At least this guy looks competent. Yuuma was an idiot and not in a good way.

I agree, but at least his hair style wasn't as ridiculous as Yuuma's.

Synopsis available.

Quote:
Ono will play the main lead Yūya Sakaki, a second-year middle school student who loves to entertain people. Although he is small, he has been training his tough body and Action Duelist arms with weapons. His dream is to become an "Entertainment Duelist" who makes people smile.

Hosoya plays Reiji Akaba, the second-generation president of the big Leo Corporation. He is an Elite Duelist with a brilliant mind.

Inamura plays Yuzu Hiiragi, a powerful girl who was Yūya's childhood friend. Her father runs Yūshō Juku ("Game Victory Cram School"), and she trains her Duel arms with Yūya.

The story is set in Maiami City on the coast of Japan. Leon Corporation is run by its president Akaba. Thanks to the spread of the company's "Solid Vision with mass," "Action Duels" are born in Maiami City and has reached worldwide popularity.

Children look up to star-level Pro Duelists, and they learn summoning and duel styles at various large and small cram schools, including the Yūshō Juku that Yūya attends and the largest such school, Leo Duel School (LDS).

One day, Yūya ends up fighting an exhibition match with the current champion of Pro Duel world…
There two ways this duel could end. One is with Yuya's victory and subsequent life filled with challenges by other duelists. The other with his defeat and his determination for a rematch. I seriously hope it turns out to be the former.

2D monsters, Nakagawa music, Ken'ichi Hara as the chief animation director, Ono back directing, there's a lot of things that sound good about this new Yu-Gi-Oh! I didn't really like ZEXAL, so here's hoping I'll be able to enjoy Arc-V, lol.

Also, who needs bikes when you can ride hippos on your card games! Cracked me up there, the whole scene is just outrageously fabulous. Looking forward to the 1st ep!

Having watched the original Yu-Gi-Oh series waaaaaaaay back when it was on Kid's WB (at least where I lived), and then liking GX, but drawing the line at 5D's (yes, I thought card games on motorcycles was the most ridiculous idea in the the world), I've done some debating with friends, and I think that I'm going to really give this series a shot, especially since I've heard Zexal was a true abomination (and I've been told to give 5D's another shot). As long as I don't let myself get suckered into the actual physical card game, I think I might enjoy this series.

@Magin

I have watched the original series and 5D's, and imo you should really give 5D's a chance, at least the first 65 episodes...

As for the physical card game, who needs to buy real cards when you can play online for free ??

I had the same experience more or less. I couldn't even follow along with the duels in 5D's. I couldn't even watch Zexal after I saw our main character's hair. WTF!? But I had to agree that adding a female heroine with the obvious hots for our main character sure did wonders for the show.
