To everyone who kindly corrected me about the letter - yeah, my bad, I forgot that they mentioned it in the previous ep. In my mind that letter box scene is linked to a flashback about little Kaoru furiously writing letters to his friends, and checking the letter box only to find that he haven't received any replies.

Also take into account the music he "represents": the scene with Olympus playing pretty much summed up what rock and roll was back then (in Japan, anyway), with all the cheesiness and mannerisms and so on. And if you look at the typical mannerisms of Japanese idols... yeah, Seiji has all that down pat. And as Guardian Enzo said, that's how rock and roll seemed like to everyone who wasn't into it. I mean, look at the other characters' reactions. Sen and Kaoru initially think he's a freak, Yamaoka is pretty creeped out by him, too, and though it was cut from the anime, after the electricity goes out he tries to dance to keep the audience's attention, at which point the third year guys say "Get off from there! A man shouldn't be shaking his ass like that, it's disgusting." Quote:
As for Hosoya Yoshimasa, i first noticed him in No.6 - he was perfect for the role, sure, but what really caught my attention was that really... pretty timbre that his voice has. It's just pretty. I could listen to him reading the Yellow Pages for hours. Back then I predicted lots of angsty pretty boy roles in his future (dunno if he had any, for all I know he already has a number of BL CDs uner his belt), so I was really surprised when I learned that he would be voicing such a character. Suwabe Junichi, I first heard him in the X anime (that I hated, urgh) as Fuuma, along with Suzumura Kenichi as Kamui. Both have come so far... And "feminine sultriness" is a pretty good description of what Endou Aya does with her voice here, and it's definitely a great choice for Yurika. Last edited by kuromitsu; 2012-05-25 at 14:09. |

It was exactly what you said kirarakim
She felt badly for giving in even for just a moment to the guy she knows is crushing on her hard Sen begins to pick up on Yurika's feelings for Jun on their little outing And fully realizes at the shop when he sees her with the record but the poor guy went and gave that push |

I loved this episode; great week for noitamina!
I thought Sen had figured out from his "date" with Yurika that she was into Jun. So I was surprised when he tried to kiss her in the basement. He's also carrying the Chet Baker record with the song Jun sang at the gig. So you'd think Sen would realize that Yurika isn't likely to respond well to a romantic advance. That opinion is reinforced by seeing the look of fear on Yurika's face as they enter the basement. What happens next seems like it was written in an anthropology textbook. Sen aggressively encircles Yurika in a territorial way. It's as though he's staking his "claim" on Yurika and trying to bully her into choosing him over Jun. Sen even appears to have succeeded in this strategem during the remarkably animated kissing sequence. Yurika is on the verge of reciprocating before Jun crashes the party. The look of horror in Yurika's eyes tells you everything you need to know about how her beautiful romantic fantasy starring Junichi has been torn to shreds. I thought she might throw up as she leaves the store. I don't think she blames anyone but herself for what transpired with Jun either. I agree with Kaoru Chujo that we're supposed to think Yurika lost her virginity to Jun. She tells Kaoru that she "betrayed [Sentarou] in the worst way." Jun seems a rather promiscuous fellow and likely not above seducing a headstrong high-school girl. At this point the lack of much back story about the girls leaves me speculating. Yurika is an artist and from her portrait of Sentarou probably thinks of herself as avant-garde. It's not hard to see her imagining a beautiful artistic romance with a jazz musician. She might be chomping at the bit to spread her wings and leave her parents behind, too. We'll never know, of course.

1) She was about to kiss another man (Sen) in front of the man she truly wants (Jun). 2) She was leading Sen on and using him to fill in her loneliness when she truly did not love him. It became very obvious to Sen after that point that Yurika only has eyese for Jun. However, the whole situation is quite a mess right now.

Am I the only one who thought Sentarou was a real jerk, not only for cornering Yurika in such a brutish manner, but also for punching Junichi?

On another note, Ritsuko was super cute this episode, as usual. I just hope she doesn't end up with Sentarou, she's way too good for him, in my opinion. |

I'm on a bit of a Noitamina Radio binge, and noticed that Suwabe Junichi was a guest a while ago. So if anyone's interested, hop over here look for the 59th part, where Suwabe talks about Junichi and Sakamichi no Apollon and probably lots of other stuff. (Haven't listened to it yet.)
Aaawww, turns out he thought he would sing "But Not For Me" and practiced for days, and in the end they just told him "nah, it's OK, you won't sing" XD;; (Also, Kimura Ryouhei (aka Kaoru) is the latest, 62th guest.) Last edited by kuromitsu; 2012-05-26 at 10:54. |

That's so sad Did they even test him out or was the decision made earlier for someone else? Though I've never heard him sing in English before -- are there any such songs Last edited by gianna; 2012-05-26 at 12:23. |

Lately, we have been seeing more and more of that golden side of Sentarou, but, unfortunately, in this incident, the coin flipped, and we were seeing the very basest side of Sentarou, not only in the brutish manner he cornered Yurika, but also lashing out at one of the very few friends that he has ever had. Not a good thing to do. |

"Go ahead guys."
"But...!" "Don't worry." *Takes off glasses* "I got this." Kamina and Hosaka can now add Kaoru to their ranks. Seriously, if he really took off his glasses before sitting down to the piano, all the girls would've die and go to Heaven. I nearly did, and I'm not a girl. Another action-packed episode (why does every episode feel like the final episode?). The romance is in a five way Mexican standoff. Perhaps Sentaro and Kaoru becoming idols in school will provide a catalyst. Kaoru in particularly seems to be entering that lucky period in life when girls notice him. When Yurika was confessing her troubles to Kaoru outside the auditorium, I thought they were going to make a connection too, thus tangling the web further (and making things even more interesting). Awesome episode.

Some points:
-Sen idolizes Jun -he is not that stupid either, and can put two and two together -Jun was kind of an ass, no, scratch that, he was a total ass -and hurt Yurika -never mind Sen So yeah. I think it's pretty easy to see why Sen blew up at him. He's not some sort of an unpredictable, violent beast (the only reason he ever started fighting was people picking fights with him), he just got very angry at Jun. Not saying that it was right to hit him, but well... *shrug* |

I want to highlight the really neat animation in the cuts where the students where telling each other about the concert. They were animated by BahiJD, a foreign animator that started on gifs and found a place as key animator for this show.
Sometimes I think people don't give animation the recognition that it deserves in an audiovisual medium such as anime, thus I wrote this. |
