Coiling Dragon, by I Eat Tomatoes - Light Novel

For a while I've been on and off with some of the light novels' threads here, and some time ago I began reading an extremely good light novel named Coiling Dragon by an author with a pen name I Eat Tomatoes.

I tried searching for the light novel's thread, but found nothing so I decided to open this thread for those of you who haven't heard about it.

Author: I Eat Tomatoes.
Name: Coiling Dragon.
Status: Complete (the LIGHT NOVEL).
Length: 21 books, 800+ chapters.
Genre: Wuxia (fantasy/martial arts read more on wiki).

Summary:
Linley, an heir to one of the great warriors clans in history, seeks to bring back his clan's fame and status back to what it has been in the past.

That turned out really short... It might sound plain but give it a try! I Eat Tomatoes became my favorite author by a long shot, and Coiling Dragon written in such an interesting way and both the plot and the characters (for the very least, the main character) are very well developed.
It really changed my outlook on what I once considered a readable plot, and that might be the only drawback from I Eat Tomatoes's works. With my new understating I can barely find good things to read and resorts to long breaks to accumulate a well amount of chapters to read once a week...

If you decides to read Coiling Dragon and enjoyed it, allow me to recommend Stellar Transformation and Swallowed Star, also by I Eat Tomatoes. Stellar Transformation is his first work and also complete (the LIGHT NOVEL, and not sure about Swallowed Star)

I think I read the translator of Coiling Dragon saying once that Stellar Transformation is his first work, but doesn't really matter if it isn't.

I'm currently up to date with the translations of Coiling Dragon, Stellar Transformation and Swallowed Star. But since Stellar Transformation's translator stopped releasing new chapters and Swallowed Star's is too busy (although he is doing his best for us readers!) to release in a pace equal to that of Coiling Dragon's translator (3 chapters a day!), I kinda more hyped for Coiling Dragon and that is why I opened the thread of this work by I Eat Tomatoes.

I hate GoogleTranslate and rather wait years for a series to be translated if not giving up and learning the language. And I also was surprised to not find a thread for any of the light novels.

MC is OP but it doesn't feel like the standard OP when the character train for a week and turn unstoppable or get mad and suddenly a surge of power. The MC in I Eat Tomatoes works always has something that makes him unique and give him an advantage, but to utilize this SOMETHING, the MC has to train for many years and go trough a lot of hardships in a reasonable pace.

Check the link wtfkjp posted. Not sure if it's allowed in this forum, but it's a link to the website of Coiling Dragon's translator. He releases 3 chapter per day (thanks to donations). Currently, during the week I accumulate new chapters and read them all (around 21 chapters) every Saturday (last one was amazing!).

Till now, in any of the works I mentioned, there was no harem, ecchi or useless MC. There is romance in all three, but in each it's develop differently. If you are tired of the usual stuff (The Adventures of the Shield Hero, for example), then here you will get a breather.

Normal romance would be good harem is useless if the MC is a pussy like nao-chan or if the haremettes are NPCs like in Isekai Meikyuu~

It's really a pretty good series but it suffers from one particularly bad habit of IET's, which is the treatment of characters in the MC's inner circle who are not directly protagonists. There's your typical power inflation phenomenon which is so common in these series, except that the increasingly powerful antagonists often torment the very normal side characters in extraordinarily brutal and cruel ways. As the series go on, and the power level of each new antagonist grows, the way in which they treat normal people gets worse and worse. It's more than a little off-putting, at least for me.

For example, and this is a "major" spoiler (this happens to a side character):

Yale gets mind controlled into doing terrible things for an extended period of time not just once, but twice, by two separate antagonists. The second time he was even forced to kill his own family and friends, after which his freedom was restored and he went mad, wracked with guilt over what he'd been made to do. Reading this part killed any desire I had to continue the series, at least temporarily.

I mean, life's all great for Linley, Delia, and Bebe, but it kinda sucks for most everyone else.

You make me feel bad for not wanting to read Ruler of The Land... (hate historical and the are. Hopeful in the future give a try and find it amazing like kingdom).
And no, the MC is not a pussy a garbage character, and the romance is normal.
In terms of comedy, I think Stellar Transformation has more amusing moments (can't say much about Swallowed Star because there aren't many translated chapters), but that is because Coiling Dragon is a bit more serious.

All cool dude~ but when you're talking about martial arts stories, Ruler of The Land is the first that comes to mind, since Chinese martial society is like Korean's Murim and it's not historical per se, it's even more similar to Isekai Adventures rather than historical pieces such as Kingdom and Historie

Lol. Life is not at all "good " for almost anyone in IET works. Maybe discount feng luo(swallowed)
Both quin yu and lei fei have their share of cry, sadness... etc.
I kinda find funny how antagonist all are evil, tough guys until they find mc can kill them. That moment they turn into puppies begging pardon(after all killings and so)

I really recomend battle trough heavens(fighting broke skies mt name soo lamee)

Mc being called waste. His fiance go to broke engagement due mc powerless, mc train hard and kick evil asses, but not tl yet. I read with mt. In this work the duality in enemies is more large

You find powefull enemy bs mc thinking he win only to get his ass served and cry and beg for his life.... i love it

1 no harem (at least untill vol 8 idk and doubt there will be)
2 true romance at the middle of the saga , else is bad ending (to the point to call it ntr)
3 lot of fights
4 pokemon!
5 hero kinda turns into a dark hero, cant blame him

No. Light novels are considered books for children in their teens to early twenties. There are American books that are sold over there and considered light novels R.L. Stine, Animorphs and others. If your target audience is from teens to young adults it doesn't matter what country they're from thy'll be sold under that banner. Can't remember the names at the moment but there have been animes made from "light novels" that were written by foreigners.

Also I read this story a while back while the writing is good and it started interesting it quickly just turned into vengeance porn and too repetitive. There would be dread every time a new villaine would pop up cuz I knew someone was going to die, betray or go wrong the story was just too predictable and the characters were sometimes inconsistent. Also the harem aspect was just painful to read sometimes.

Luv I eat tomatoes wuxia novels. The MC in Coiling dragon capitalizes on every advantage he gets and milks it without waste. He's also mulit-talented and can be considered a master at all now or in the near future translations. =P It can get a bit long-winded and drawn out, but the flow of the story and events keeps you wanting for more and pressing F5 on the translators website until it crashes. -.- Translations are pretty consistent too so you get ur daily or weekly fixes of tomatoes .

No, she doesn't. Linley is extremely loyal to her, to the point where I felt super bad for 詹尼. IET's protagonists are very Chinese in the sense of which traits they embody, so harems aren't a thing.

We should make a protocol that new series thread starters add answers to these questions in their first. Or else they would forget that these are important questions that will show up again and again no matter the new series is light novel, web novel, manga, manghwa, or a wuxia...........


p.s. I do have some familiarity with Wuxia so I want to know an important question "What are the MC's flaws?" I'm kinda bored with the "I will avenge my father" type of stories.
