Geez, so much negative reaction to the allies. Is it really so bad that they would want to give the Straw Hats clear sailing, rather than have them basically destroy every last Marine on the island just to set sail? They were doing them a favor. It doesn't mean the Straw Hats are weak, just that they have an adventure to get to and their allies are trying to help them on their way.

Well, with everyone (seemingly, at least) angry at the mentors coming for a quick skirmish and the advancing of the lastest wave of "perona is gonna join now for sure"...
I wonder... what about Mihawk. I don't mind him not being there at all, but I'm very curious about how his relation with Zoro is in the present. Did he really raise an enemy for himself, or rather a successor? Mihawks influence on Zoro (at least on his way of speech! - can't wait to get more of this ) is rather obvious. On the other hand, did Zoro convert Mihawk to Luffyism, or has he probably rather sparkled a serious wish on Mihawks side to confront the "next generations golden child"; alike the way Mihawk wanted to see how he'd fare against WB during the war. The next time Hawk Eyes makes an entrance, will it be as a friend or will he be looking for confrontation (not out of hatred or sinister reasoning but to measure himself)? Another point I would like to hear the boards thoughts about is the very strong emphasis Oda put on Rayleigh being Luffys new mentor (will shanks be jealous? ;-) ), was that just fanservice as well, more justification for an incoming bounty raise, setting rayleigh up for a heroic-sacrifice later on, or something entirely else? |

I don't mind the allies dropping them off actually, after all with training them for 2 years (longer than the crew has been together), I find the goodbye from their islands a bit underwhelming, so this one is fine. I mean, we won't see them for a long time anyway, so why not give them one last hurrah? Kinda cheesy yes, but I think it's not really that unusual for OP. At least we got Rayleigh being like Gandalf, Hancock gives great laughs from Sanji, and Perona being hot, the rest are a bit forced but the first three makes up for it for me.
Best part for me is Sanji, especially his escalating reactions. From slobbering over Perona, to massive nosebleed over Nami and Robin, and turning to stone just from seeing Hancock through a binocular (so that's completely his own there and not due to Hancock's power). Finally see his anger over Luffy in an island of women as expected, a bit tame though for someone who hasn't seen a woman for 2 years. Although they're pressed for time with Marines on their tails, I expect after things settle down, hell have a more exaggerated reaction, especially if Luffy told him he saw Hancock naked... I also like Luffy, he's still a carefree and childlike (gawking over Franky's new body, and not understanding the coating mechanism) but there's subtle hints of him maturing as well. He apologizes for causing trouble for 2 years, and really take charge as a captain and a leader afterward. Next is Fishman Island, do you guys really think they'll really be there after this or will there be another detour? Oh, one more thing, before this I'm not so hot when people say that Perona will join the crew, but if it means that we'll see her being that hot more often then I guess it won't be so bad...really, to be honest I'll crown her the one who shows the most improvement in change during the two year timeskip.

Say what you want, but I think Oda rules despite this little cheesiness. If this friendship theme is used too much, just watch how retarded are those two other series, and you'll realise One Piece has very little problems, even the lamest One Piece chapters are way above the chapters in those two others.

Jesus, some people are bickering just for the heck of it... seriosly Strawhats spend 2 years with their mentors, of course they will come to see them off since they came all the way to Shabondy to escort them...
But really sweet chapter, very fun and entertaining. This chapter really showed me how much I missed seeing Strawhats together, cant wait for next chapters really. |

They're still a long way from being gods. Of course their mentors had to protect them one last time. You guys really expected the marines to stay relaxed when Luffy is mentioned, considering the admirals mercilessly hunted him down even when Ace already got killed?

I really don’t get why people is giving the author heat about the sendoff, I am even more perplexed about the fact that its coming from veteran poster in this forum.
The farewell was proper and well used, as some have pointed each one of the SH made Nakamas on their own for 2 Years, this is even more time that the SH had together, while the experience wasn’t the same, it is still 2 years. So having in mind that they maybe not see them again in for years to come or never again, this was a good farewell to these characters and to overall to the first part of GL. Not only that the Strawhat needed to leave in a hurry to avoid even more Marine vessels , is that making them fight redshirts would had just been waste of Drawing and would had made litle sense plotwise (as the SH were capable of defeating marines before timeskip). ---- Regarding the chapter, just like Marvel, I have waited almost 2 years to see Sanji impression on Hancock, and learning about how Luffy ended up in AL, Oda didn’t failed to please me. Quote:
It doesn’t really matter how many days they stayed there, as it is logical that they would wait there until they got out successfully of the Archipielago.

Why would the mentors miss them so much? Why not?
The mentors practically spent more time with their disciples than the time the Straw Hats themselves have been together. The mentors, friends from the islands and disciples spent 2 years together, while the Straw Hat Pirates have barely sailed the seas together for a year. If Oda were to write an individual manga series of each of the Straw Hat member's 2 years, and years were to be directly proportional to the amount of chapters, he probably could write at least 1000 chapters for each of them. And Perona was already my favourite female character in One Piece, I don't know what Oda can come up with to top her.

Awesome chapter nonetheless and definitely a proper send-off from the first part of GL. |
