The Evil Within (Psychobreak), A Shinji Mikami’s Survival Horror

Story

When Detective Sebastian and his partner rush to the scene of a gruesome mass murder, a mysterious, powerful force is lying in wait for them. Witnessing the killing of fellow police officers one after another, Sebastian is then attacked and loses consciousness. Waking up in a land where monsters are wandering about, Sebastian has to fight his way through a world of death and its close friend madness in order to understand what’s going on. Sebastian has to face his fears in order to survive on a journey to discover what lies in the shadows of that mysterious force.

Key Features

A Return to Pure Survival Horror: From the father of the survival horror genre, Shinji Mikami. He appears once again as the director of this game, one which makes your blood run cold, but heats you right back up. Players must survive on limited resources, experiencing that supreme match of action and horror, that indescribable terror. To survive in an afflicted world, your anxiety and nerves will be pushed to the edge.

Brutal Traps and Enemies with Puzzles: While struggling to survive, you’ll have to face indescribable terror, cruel traps, and sly mechanisms. Players can die in a trap all too easily, however, at times they can turn them against enemies.

In an Unstable World, Not All Horrors are in Plain Sight: The player is driven into a corner as the world distorts and warps according to mysterious and evil horrors.

The scenery: hallways, walls, doors, rooms, buildings, and even nature, all transforming in real time based on the player’s actions. And the threats keep coming from all directions.

A Supernova of Horror: By setting one foot in this world weaved from lush backdrops, characters with personality, and a polished story, players will be sucked in, willing or unwilling, tension and anxiety rapidly mounting. When that fear is smashed and conquered, you can experience the bliss that can only be found in The Evil Within.

If you ask me, it sounds like the best man for the job has decided to finally merge Resident Evil with Silent Hill

Drop? I wouldn't be surprise if one of them turned and pointed towards you

So this is basically going to be an actual return to the survival horror genre and not a "survival horror" game that is actually an action movie?

Seems so.

You'll have weapons but they can break and will be limited so you don't wanna just go crazy like the RE games when it comes to trying to kill things.

I'm looking forward to this just so I can turn out the lights, turn up the volume, and play it in front of my friends.

As scary things tend to be more awesome when your friends start freaking out and in turn freak others out.

The Evil Within First Look

First Trailer and Interview with Shinji Mikami, looks like the game would be set in an Asylum... And it looks to me like Mikami is looking to channel the unholy powers of Resident Evil and Silent Hill...

I think my catch phrase for this game while playing it would be - "What the fuck is that ?!?"

But will it have the same scary/isolated atmosphere as those other games? or will it be guns-blazing action from the get-go? Personally I hope it has the heart stopping silence of Silent Hill 1.

"For me, personally, why I came back to survival horror is that survival horror as a genre is becoming all action now. There aren't any real survival horror games in the world right now. That is the biggest motivation for me."

Combat will be limited to basic weapons such as knives, axes and handguns. Players will be able to craft traps, but there will be no "heavy weapons" such as a machine gun.

It doesn't sound like you need to worry about the game containing guns-blazing action.

It's good that he's giving us some weapons to fight back.

I know a lot of people say that survival horror shouldn't have any weapons at all, but I think having no weapons is as bad as having too much weapons because it limits your options to just run and hide.
