That was actually a great ending to what was, for me, a rather let down of an episode up to that point. I think that having such an amazing episode 7 kind of set the bar too high for episode 8 but even still they managed to pull I twist I did not see coming.
I was fully expecting Corteo to be the voice of the innocent in the middle of all this but, like others speculated, it may just turn out that Angelo is far more Human than what we've been led to believe so far going by the fate of that federal investigator's family. Nero is also raising a few death flags if I'm not mistaken but still too soon to call out whether he makes it or not. I have a feeling that Barbero on the other hand may not make it through this. We still have to figure out who wrote the letter as well as who the potential forth person at the murder of Angelo's family was and so far Barbero is my top pick.

I-I didn't see that coming, Fango getting smashed with booze. At least the recipe is safe.
Even with all the death flags, Corteo manages to live at least a little longer. Poor Corteo, he should have just taken Avilio's offer to get the hell out of town. Now he's stuck in hostile territory with no allies.

Episode 8
So the police is taking action against these mafias and their alcohol business. And obviously that's an inconvenience for these mafia dudes. They show how the mafia deals with these pests. Angelo goes to Delphy to try and bribe him and threaten him too. It doesn't work so they fire some bullets at his house to scare him a bit. All that goes along with threatening phone calls. When nothing works, they plan to take out his family. And they blow up the car his wife and daughter were about to board. That results in Delphy calling off the mission he started. The mafia can be so brutal at times. Corteo wasn't fond of the mafia anyway and all this just makes him hate them even more. Corteo is also upset over Angelo becoming a full blown mafia man and doing all sorts of wrong things. Angelo has him part ways but Corteo decides to join Fango's side and leaks some information about Nero's movements which causes a commotion in the Vanetti household. When Delphy gets removed from the picture, Scusa shows up and gives Fango the recipe for Lawless Heaven. But Fango kills him because he didn't like his prices. And Fango first threatens to kill Corteo but then leaves him alone and decides to tell the Vanettis who was leaking the information. And Corteo beats the living hell out of Fango and kills him. I did not see that coming at all. This is quite the happening. Fango was irritating the Vanettis and was a big threat to them. Now Fango is out of the picture so who'll take his place? The mafia and shit has dragged Corteo into a lot of things he'll have a hard time getting out of. Angelo also noticed that Corteo is acting weirdly. This is quite the twist. The Galasias had been subdued thanks to Fio and now the ex-Orco and now ex-Fango family has been put in a pinch. Nero was already breaking down. He had those bags under his eyes which show that he isn't in a relaxed state at all. All current threats to the Vanettis have been subdued so who will cause trouble for them if anyone is going to be interesting. |

Looks like the Vanettis now own the whole city as I doubt anyone is left in the Fango family to take over or even have the authority or readiness to keep things in check. Corteo might actually be able to stay alive even as a traitor due him killing Fango. That is if he gets out of that castle alive. But what a brutal way to kill, that broken bottle stuck in Fango's throat was awesome, same with Corteo using the phone to keep smacking on Fango.
Looks like Corteo is becoming more and more of a drunk. If he doesn't die next episode I wouldn't wonder if he does a Frate and starts taking drugs to keep forgetting/be happy. :/ I wonder if Angelo somehow managed to make the wife and child go to the garage or if that was just lucky.

Ep8
Well if previous we had some anime-ish hijinks here, this episode was 100% pure HBO material. Holy hell, the dude's clearly mentally unstable. I guess Avilio will kill Corteo in order to not have him jeopardize his plans, which will complete Avilio's transformation into the very things he hated. |

I'm gonna miss the magnificent bastard Fango- fully expected for him to last longer. And Corteo did some magic avoiding all the death flags this episode- I was waiting for him to inevitably die at any given moment, not to brutally slaughter Fango at the end...
Taking in consideration the planned assassination of Delphy family and all business with Corteo, I'm thinking that Angelo has really crossed the moral event horizon in his quest of revenge. What he does is succeeding and some of Angelo' s plans have been brilliantly evil, but it just makes hard to root for him. |

Add me in to the crowd that never saw that ending coming. I never could have imagined Corteo would be the one to take out Fango. It makes sense he was able to, since Fango never once saw him as a threat and therefore completely dropped his guard around him. It turns out a man's despair is not to be underestimated. It can make one do crazy things.
Glad that Angelo hasn't completely gone over to the dark side, since he spared the family of the FBI agent.

Poor Fango, you magnificent bastard. Should have realized even a mouse will fight back when cornered. The scene itself played out nicely though. I especially liked the added touch of the record skipping while Corteo bludgeoned Fango over and over again.

So the Uncle was the 4th guy. Guess he wanna become Don instead of his nephew. Next episode gonna decide whenever Corteo lives or dies, I hope for living and getting the hell out of that mafia city. Great that the Vanettis now control everything and got a huge family with a big booze production under their belt, but no way will the Galassis take them enter their territory, even if they give them a share. This gonna become a full blown war sooner than later.
