Well, you have to give Lelouch a lot of credit. He personally knew he had to die in order to give his sister a peaceful life. Also, both Lelouch and Suzaku knew that the Black Knights were going to side against them, so they must have planned everything out to the end. They both knew that Kallen with her mech had the best chance of confronting them, so Suzaku had his "death scene" just to rid the Knight of Zero. The months following allowed Lelouch to become cruel and monsterous to unite the world against him. Since Suzaku has a ton of sins to atone for, he must have agreed with Lelouch to take of the mantle of Zero and work for the people.

V.V. died when Charles took his code because he was already fatally hurt before he could heal.
The Nun died because she choose to, when her code was finally taken away.
Losing Code does not equal losing life.

Personally the entire series I felt that if Lulu or Suzaku had to die it would only be epic if Lulu killed Suzaku or Suzaku killed Lulu because it was always between those two. Also and open end for Lulu is awesome because if you hated him all series for the multiple times he raped the dog (Dam he geassed his own sister) you can consider him dead and if not there is hope that he exists in some form somewhere

In the end everyone pretty much got what they wanted with the exception of Secondary Brittainian Characters

It safe to say that 80% of the Brittainian cast got royally screwed.
