It's kind of a thing in comedic shows that you never resolve the relationship issues with the main characters. For example, they did that with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd in "Moonlighting" and that killed the show stone dead.
So not surprising that Chiyo and 'Captain Oblivious' Nozaki don't resolve their romantic issues, as that'd remove the comedy. The scene on the climbing frame during the fireworks was pretty much perfect by those standards, and leaves something to the imagination. I loved this show, and I'll miss it, and I hope they can do more of it as I'd love to see the characters again, because there's not a bad one in the bunch. The way it just subverted so many of the tropes was wonderful. |

Ep 12
Well, overall a pretty good ending to a good series that was a pleasant surprise on the whole. I kinda like the quiet, roundabout way they showed hints of Nozaki being aware of Chiyo - but it is kinda frustrating for me being the type of viewer I am. Still, as others said, at least she "got it out of her system". ^^ I would not mind giving s2 a try, though, and wouldn't be surprised if we got one eventually.

Argh...
The ani gif of Sakura dressed in her yukata and looking up is adorable. -_- Any chance you could resize those for folks that might want to use them for their avatars?

My heart ached for Chiyo despite her best efforts to tell herself she was fine with their relationship, such as it is. I thought the show lagged a bit in the past two episodes, but this episode more than made up for any earlier missteps.
Even if there were a second season, Chiyo and Nozaki would be no further down the road romantically than they are now for the reasons Dop presented so well. I'm not sure I could take another season of watching them never quite connect. I'm open to the notion that Nozaki is cannier than he looks, and more enchanted by Chiyo than he appears, but I remain unconvinced. I think he's intended to be as blockheaded as he appears to be to add comedy to the story, but I could be wrong. I doubt they would kiss if we watched them together for another twelve episodes unless it happened accidentally. I could see a scene where their lips meet for some reason, but it would look a lot like the romantic scene at the school gate. I also have problems with love-struck heroines, even ones as appealing as Chiyo. She reminds me of Tsukamoto Tenma with her unrelenting focus on one guy no matter how unresponsive he might be. As amusing as these pursuits can be from a comedic perspective, after a while the pursuers begin to look silly and stupid. Chiyo is a very attractive girl, if a bit genki for some tastes, and could probably do better than Nozaki-kun if she wanted a more interactive relationship. Instead she worships Nozaki, places him in the center of her universe, and keeps her private thoughts to herself. I generally detest this type of female protagonist, but this show is so well-written that I enjoyed it anyway. Spoiler for Nodame Cantabile:

Only Nozaki would think that the word Candy is a slang for something..."Candy and the whip"?? Didn't know Nozaki was into S&M.
...okay, need to finish watching the ep. ...skip Chiyo...Mikorin was darn cute in that scene with the yukata - how he's waiting for her to return the compliments. LOL. ..."And the woman heading this way will probably make your life miserable..." - poor Waka. Nozaki's brother reminds me of Kyoya Hibari from Katekyo Hitman Reborn. Poor Chiyo...fallen for the most oblivious guy in the world...whose only thought is only his manga. I hope this show gets a second season!!

Oh my god, that was a fantastic ending and exactly what I should have expected. Of course, it would have been nice to have some sort of definite conclusion, but it probably just would not have fit the show's style. 10 seconds into the episode, I was grinning as I always am while watching the show. Halfway in, still grinning. At the end, grinning. We got a whole lot out of this episode and this show, and I'll be more than excited for a second season, but I won't be disappointed if there isn't one. This season can stand alone and doesn't need anything else. Absolutely loved it!
