Hoshiai no Sora (Star-Crossing Skies)
Quote:
Plot/Premise The teen adolescence story revolves around the coming-of-age of boys in a junior high school's soft tennis team, which is on the verge of shutting down. In the video above, the character Tōma Shinjō asks Maki Katsuragi to join the team for his vaunted abilities, and mentions a summer competition. Katsuragi asks for money in return for joining the team. ANN https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...r-2019/.135624

God damn! Everything from the beginning...the joggers in the background, the interactions between the girls and boys tennis clubs, the 2nd MC (or rather 1st MC) moving in to town and catching the kitty cat, his interactions with the rich MC and his neighbor...it was all a breath of fresh air. I was just happy with how well it was going, even with framework the other classmate gave that led to the "bribe". The only thing I was not sold on was why the rich MC's mother seems to dislike him. Step mother maybe?
Anyways, back to the rest of this amazing first episode...that ending. I 100% thought the new racket would be taken away. Luckily, douchebag dad didn't seem to notice it, but I guess hiding money in the a/c unit is no longer a viable idea. I hope the worst happens to the good for nothing dad. So overall, I feel like this first episode introduced so many angles of drama, it felt like a real drama. Well written, and not a dull moment. I can't wait for episode 2. |

Yeah, that was quite a dark turn to an otherwise benign atmosphere.
Also gotta be one of the most cynical takes I've seen in a recruitment process for a sports anime. No love for the sport itself: Its all about the money. Rather impressed with that episode. It hooked me from the start. Have to say though that getting a friend to stalk the new guy and his mum for information is kinda sketchy. That middle schooler has deeper pockets than me.

Reading the comments here I gave it a chance, SoL are not my cup of tea male sport SoL even less. And yeah, it grabbed my attention from the start (more or less I skipped all the chit-chat of the kids after the game lost against the girls team).
And definitely I that ending was unexpected. The show seems to be interested in exploring parent disorders, the hint with the rich guy mother also was already off all considered. For now I have only one question, soft tennis, it really exists? why? another of those Japanese mysteries

Wow...teaching the one handed backhand already? Future Federer in the making? And a name drop of Japan's number one tennis player!
I really like how realistic it is, with all the other clubs and student athletes doing their own thing in the fore/background. That dance...pretty cool to watch. |
