I saw this was on Netflix; so I checked it out. Surprised it was in so many languages. I didn't think the show was that popular. Anyway, it was a great movie; good length, good fights, solid story. After coming from Demon Slayer, its nice to see a shounen movie that doesn't dawdle in self-expositions. It's pretty much 2 hours of mostly full octane from beginning of the action(after the first 8 or so mins) to the end. Most of the extended Magic Knight cast gets their little moment in the limelight, and the villains were powerful and interesting, both design-wise and power-wise. It was pretty much everything you like(or hate ) about the TV series, but with a higher animation budget.

Spoiler for broad spoilers:

For me, i would say the following.

If you are seeing the Movie for Action, then OK.

But don't really watch it for the plot, as it's all over the place.
Especially if you try to compare it with the plot we got in the Anime (which is based on the Manga).

So, it's better to treat the Movie as an Alternate Universe story.

I don't think it has to be considered from an AU. I mean, I think it does what it set out to do very well, which is make an interesting movie with worthy villains and great action scenes of almost all the main and extended cast. I'm not sure what you actually expect them to do plot wise, since if it was anything significant, it would be required viewing, which most movies do not want to do. Even then, the bit we got about the past wizard kings(albeit small) and small thread connecting Asta's return to the kingdom is foundation enough I'd say.

The primary reason why i said this as AU, because of all the stuff and power scaling that happens.

Since, we see Asta flying on his "Demon-Slayer/Danma" Sword, that means plot-wise the story should be after Asta's training in the Heart Kingdom (before we dive into the Heart Kingdom Joint Struggle Arc).

But near the end, we see him use the same power he acquired when he fought Dante (the one for which he made a deal with Liebe, turning his right-hand permanently demonic), which canonically doesn't match with the Manga plot, especially considering that Yami gets captured at the end of that battle very battle he pays the price.

I think that, if they had made the power-scaling aspect of the plot of the Movie in-line with a specific timeline of the plot covered in the Anime (like those Filler Arc's), then it might have been better.

As for the Story plot, it seemed to me that neither side wanted to listen or understand each other, and just wanted to duke it out (which is sort of different from Manga plot, were Asta always tried to understand his opponent, before deciding what he wants to do).

I guess this is true. Initially, I was thinking the devil just "lent" him the power as he said he'd get the payment for it later, but after watching it again, I can see his arm did have the "ascended" form gained when he fought Dante BEFORE the devil gave him that extra boost in the Movie. I mean, I don't see it as a big deal, as it seems like the devil can give/not give him power at his(Liebe's) own will but i can see it being an issue if you're looking for absolute consistency.

I don't see it being much to talk about. Asta didn't give Dante much of a time to talk either. And both Dante and Conrad basically attacked them out of nowhere. Sure, Conrad's reasoning was much more empathetic to the viewer, but to Asta, their plans involved the suffering of a lot of ppl, so its not surprising he didnt let either of them a chance, esp since Conrad was insulting the wizard king; that sort of thing would give an instant rise from Asta.
