Hmmm, since Rapier + oujo-sama is kinda popular theme these days, I'm going to give it to Saki. :3

The problem with overnerfing OC is the fact that the nerfs don't make sense sometimes. It's like you gave them a nerf only for the purpose of saying that this ability has a drawback that it really doesn't have a reason to have. That's what I find quite disturbing. But sometimes I just don't like overnerf because of the number of drawbacks it makes you wonder if there was even a reason to give this guy that ability other than being a one hit deus ex machina plot device. Those are generally the types of overnerf I mean.

I like to remind you that Ichika is a one-hit kill joy.

The only thing keeping him from dominating other IS is: He is not really that good in piloting IS....

To Nerf his IS is actually to make him a better pilot....

Edit: Most people don't get it and buff up his IS instead.

The problems is not with his IS, the problem is the pilot.....

Moar edit: Even the canon prove it: Chifuyu only need Yukihira to dominate other IS.... Ichika still need Setsura for gun....

With speed surpassed that of average Rapid Switch, Saki draw her signature weapon, a green-bladed rapier. "... let me repeat what you said one year ago... carrying the pride as I.S.A. student means were talking through our sword! Don't tell me you already forget that, Tatenashi?!"

Tatenashi simply responded by unleashing her lance as well. "Well then, please tell me throughout this fight... Saki-chan~"

Something landed hard near Saki's place, it was a huge pillar... no, a war hammer. With an I.S. sit on top of it's handle even. "Oi, don't forget about me"

I guess you really hafta bring that don't you? Ichika is experienced and thus need a bigger stick, it's a fact. He's nowhere as extremely good swords(wo)man as Chifuyu, he's notably inferior to Houki, and barely keep up with Rin, or Laura. Relying on single sword is really dumb for his current self, hence the need for Setsura.

Ichika has a proper weakpoint. A time limit. Sadly the author probably isn't really into writing action so he doesn't know how to handle it. He probably uses Ichika's lack or growth or at least a reverse directioned growth in skill to balance out the cheat in that weapon.

The ranged weapon makes sense in the logic that it's a dogfight. 99% of the time, what are the chances that you'll really make contact in such cases?

Ichika still remains as an example of overnerf. There is no reason for him to have his ass repeatedly handed to him that badly without putting up a good fight.

Dropping this before I sleep: The only reason most of us make overnerfed OC's is because of the paranoia people on the archive have. In other media, we could probably make more competent ones.

Everyone seems to be high on the new anime called Aesthetica... or something. Apparently, a harem hero that knew his position well and abuse it, without making himself too much of an ass like Makoto Itou.

Not me. I was interested in it at first until.....

He abused his position without retribution because "he is really that good."
"He is really that good"
"he is really that good"

The impression I got from him so far.

I only watch it only because of Miu..... err... not because of her breast (no, seriously....anime big boobs are ridiculous, I rather watch a watermelon instead) but more of because her back story somewhat similar to an original character I have for my story.

I'm not too interested, but I think unless the audience is a moral police (hardly, since we're talking about harem fandom), hard to hate him outright. And yeah, he seems to be good on what he does, and suck when he didn't

I mean that any female OC's tend to get shuffled into abnormal territory while male one's get the normal route. Irish and Alice (PT Agent) from shadow shiow this dynamic pretty well.

You know the definition of normal right?

For even more badass awesome (with emphasis on normal part), no solider background but the character has enough brain and bluff to screw everybody over....Epic-ly.

Example:
Take down an IS without even having to resort to fight an IS.

What's normal depends on the scale you're using.

For example: An untrained civilian fighting with an experienced soldier would be considered badass normal.

At the same time, that same soldier would be considered normal when fighting next to a werewolf.
