Alternate timelines. Requiring fixing. Things end well if you're a pirate!
Instant win. Though I can't say I liked how Star Trek kept fooling around with time... In the end, I prefer is it were more about messing with quantum parallel universes. Quote:
---RED ALERT!--- Lately, I’ve been thinking about what ship I want to be the protagonist of the redone Audacious Space Traders fic. And frankly, I’ve run into a brick wall. With the Bentenmaru effectively acting more like the Defiant, and the cast more planet-bound than ever, I’ve decided to take things into high warp. I’ve also decided to cast Jenny Dolittle in a more protagonistic light. All this meant either placing her on the Crest Eagle, which really is quite terrible and jarring, or finding a new cargo-hauler actually designed for cargo hauling (instead of a small vessel branded as an escort freighter/Funnyboat but is in actual fact a small warship). Perhaps some background setting is needed first. After the Fiance Fiasco, Doolittle decided that additional measures needed to be taken before she could be assured of her freedom. And she knew where to get it: while escaping from her almost-captors, she discovered the flight plan of a large retrofitted star cruiser being handed over to her almost-fiance. And when the pirates smashed into the latter’s abode, she discovered that that ship had been moved to a black dockyard somewhere in the Delphic Expanse. That information was conveniently left out from the report to the authorities. And so, during the time she’s missing from the main cast in the Race arc, Doolittle’s been assembling a crack team of professionals to steal that starship. This is where Kaelis Binville and the Crest Eagle come in. All that being said and done, I find that I have absolutely no idea what form that star cruiser will take. I wanted a multiple rocket nacelle + rocket primary hull design, but I also know how little that kind of shape can carry. A massive saucer would be a balance of space needs, mobility, aesthetics, and weapon fire arcs of a Doolittle cruiser, but that would stick out of the setting like a sore thumb. So far, I’ve opted for having a Cargo section saucer, and a rocket-&nacelle-type secondary hull. In the event of an emergency, the ship can perform a Cargo Separation, sending the Cargo Section off in one direction while the Stardrive Section becomes a mobile corvette supported by the Crest Eagle escort. The 3 ship components can remain in the same area as well, performing a multi-vector assault on their unsuspecting raiders. This however is still too much Star Trek and not enough Space Pirates. I was then hoping to tap the brains of the ship nuts we have in this thread. What do you think? What would you like to see?

Mobirates 22 - The Gigant Horse
Life isn't getting easier for Marika, is it? Pirate/high school student is enough of a double shift as it is, but now we can add "president of the yacht club" to it. I am glad for Jenny and Lynn, though. Those two are going to get down to business in college soon. And I'll stop my thoughts there. What I liked most about this episode was what it did for world building. We've spent a lot of time with the Bentenmaru (and we should, they're our heroes), but to know there are other ships and other captains and other crews out there, each with their own story to tell, does make the vast loneliness of space not feel so lonely after all. I thought Captain Stone would be the villain this week, but despite his gruff exterior, he was on Marika's side. This dude in the mask (really, is he Marika's dad? I've already dealt with that plot twist once this week) looks to be the real challenger. Mostly a slow setup type episode, but still enjoyable. This should make for an exciting final arc. |

As doe a second season. I would have to have an idea what the remaining novel's plots are suppose to be about (summary if fine) to see if their is something that warrent more verse what we are getting (conflicting plotlines or anything).
I wouldn't mind following these pirates around for a while. Their universe seems interesting, though we need more information about the Galactic Empire and some of the scope of the galaxy.

Everyone's talking about the guy who appeared at the end and how he might be Marika's father but..... I'm more curious about the woman commanding the pirates-hunter ship myself.
Maybe it's just me but I got the feeling this mysterious woman might be Ririka. There were some flags I thought. How she wasn't at home, and Marika not knowing what she was doing, etc. Is it just me?

Well crap.
Stuff just got real. Well Marika, I'm not sure that your "trick" was such a good idea. Maybe the Bentemaru would have been overlooked. But when you're escorting a ship called "Big Catch" you're just asking for trouble. On a more realism note, the pirate hunters seemed to be targeting the more powerful space pirate ships, thus sailing with one equals a big target on your back. Also, this show just became quite different. I assume this is all anime only now? Seems to me like they are deliberately trying to set up a second season with a more epic adventure feel to it. Maybe once Marika graduates she'll be off on adventures that will fuel multiple seasons? This new arc just seems so ambitious, it's hard to believe it's not setting up for more than just a few episodes. Quote:
