So, someone spoil me: How does Saki get her powers back if, unlike Satoru, no one knows or remembers her mantra? Pressure from being in a more dire life-or-death situation?

What happened to Mamoru, Maria and Shun during Satoru and Saki's little monster-rat adventure?

Okay, so to satisfy everyone's burning curiosity about the porny parts that have been so cruelly excised from the anime, here's the missing sex scene from whichever episode it was when Satoru and Saki were being naughty, courtesy of 2ch. In Japanese, obviously.

Yeah, that's all of it. From a screenwriting/adaptation angle, there's like one or max. two sentences that would have been worth the precious seconds, just to make Saki et al's society's attitude to sexuality a bit more clear. (But then, how do you work that into an anime? It's all internal thoughts, and saying them out loud would've been pretty silly I think.) The rest is not particularly interesting and it would've been pretty distracting if animated faitfully. As for the ero quotient, it's not exactly high either in my subjective opinion.

The writing, though. I thought I was used to weird descriptions, but "like a tiny pet," really? Suddenly I'm not sure if I really want to read this book.

/facepalm

What did you expect? 10 pages of porn

As for the "metaphor", remember the age of the narrator

Oh no - just, you know, some sort of "controversial material" that was definitely cut because the creators went "eeeww sex" and cutting it had a negative effect on the anime? But no - after reading this there's nothing that I'm missing from the anime. That one or two lines on these two pages that would've been worth it only to make some things more clear, can be either worked into the show later or made apparent in other ways... but I don't think they're particularly important, we've had enough hints already.

Actually, that makes it even worse... Though I guess if I was a guy I would start referring to my ahem, accessory as "my pet."

It was weird, that's what it was. xD;;

And she does it again later when
Spoiler for don't read if you don't feel secure in your manly heterosexuality, also NSFW:

But if I was a guy I'd definitely try calling it my pet. "Hey, want to play with my pet? he's very friendly!" eeeeehhhh....

(Btw I wonder how many people will complain about the anime not showing this particular scene in detail... )

Well, they are 14YO kids that have grown in a futuristic (but extremely conservative) environment. Nonetheless, I am a guy and not even at 6 was referring to reproductive organs or natural functions by stupid aliases, because some adults have serious psychological (but socially acceptable) issues.

It depends, how they handle it... usually, the less realistic taboo themes are presented, they are better received by the majority.

PS: Ignoring the fact that Saki is narrating, I can not ignore the fact that she was peeping live action yaoi... dunno fujoshi audience anyone

Frankly, I think this is more of an author issue than a characterization issue... seriously, a pet? an animal? I suppose some people find it less ridiculous than I do, but still.

It's not a "taboo" theme, it's just people being homophobic (at least when it's two guys because you bet they wouldn't mind the hot two-girl action). :/

They liken themselves to bonobos....that's expected actually if they seem animal like or primitive

You mean the pet thing? o_o That wasn't "themselves", just a certain part of male anatomy. (Also it was called a small pet and a small animal, bonobos are certainly not small!)

I do find it strangely named, since it's not your typical "erotica" description. On the other hand, it's not like there's many underage sex scenes where detail is given and I can imagine it was difficult for the writer to do it without it turning into something even less socially palatable. I'm just offering a possible reason for the way it's described though, I could be wrong.

Plus, these kids are twelve, then fourteen. The penis tends to be pretty small until puberty hits, even when erect, and we're talking several years before it reaches mature size (unless you've hit some kind of genetic jackpot). Plus if there is foreskin, it takes a bit for it to naturally roll back, so you have things like phimosis (a condition where the foreskin takes longer than normal to learn how to retract properly, which has a chronic version that can last into adulthood).

So I can imagine from the perspective of a young girl, it might not seem as intimidating as a fully matured male's penis would be, and the description would change accordingly.

I'm guessing Squealer is intentionally named as such
Spoiler for foreshadowing:

I don't see why you people find those figurative expressions as ridiculous. Those are blatantly gross, simple and to-the-point similes. They are so blatantly practical and effective that I could easily imagine Satoru's mesmerized and stupid expression like "a little animal" does on your palm. One reason why Saki stopped peeping and left the scene is she didn't want to see they, both of them she kind of respects, would do such stupid things.

So Saki lost her respect for Satoru and Shun because she watched them do it (using childish vocabulary)? Or that is what she wants to believe because she is feeling inferior to both?

As I said the words "little animal" and "pet" are used as similes when *Saki* described Satoru's part or reaction. Saki said she had already seen other boys in her class was doing it and said it looked unsightly, so she simply didn't want see they do the same thing.

You mean metaphor not simile, because after taking care of a couple of pets and the instrument in question, I can say with confidence that they are very different

Back the point I was making, it has nothing to do with how Saki would lose respect for someone that saved her life (among other things) but why.
