Miyazaki hints at possible 'Nausicaa' sequel

Quote:
TOKYO — For all of Studio Ghibli’s acclaim, the famed House That Miyazaki Built has never once put out a direct sequel to one of its works. While various thematic threads run through all of Miyazaki’s films, the man, for all his genius, apparently lacks the attention span to stretch a concept into two films. That or he was just really hates the idea of tacking numbers to his movies’ titles.

However that may change soon if comments Hayao Miyazaki made at a recent interview promoting his latest film and ode to tobacco smoke, “The Wind Rises,” are to be believed.

While appearing for a one-on-one interview during the TBS Saturday morning talk show, “Osama no Brunch,” Miyazaki indicated that he’s open to the idea of a sequel to his 1984 film, “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind” – his sophomore film as a director and one of his most cherished by fans. The only catch is he wouldn’t be doing the film himself.

That honor would apparently go to acclaimed “Neon Genesis Evangelion” director Hideaki Anno.......for more click here

Mentioning of Nausicaa is from 7:25 to 8:15
Believe it or not is of your choice.

Actually I think a remake that closely followed the story of the manga (and it'd have to be two or three movies to do that justice, I reckon) could be pretty awesome.
If you've not read the manga, you're missing a treat. The story has just so much more going for it.

Personally I found the pacing of the manga to be too slow for my tastes and the story dragged itself too much. Incidentally that's more or less the same problem that I have in regards to "Mirai Shounen Conan".

I think that the movie managed to convey its message more than eloquently, and I fear that splitting it in more episodes would only decrease its value.

That being said there are a few good things in the manga that are missing in the anime but not as many to justify 7 books in my opinion. And even if you made a whole new movie to include that stuff, it wouldn't be nearly as good as the first one.

So in the end I don't really think a sequel or a remake would be a good idea, especially if done by Anno.

I look forward to this, if it is indeed going to happen. Anno's mindrape scenes from Evangelion were inspired by Naushika so this would be oddly fitting.

^ You have to see it. We rarely get a perfect blend of gentle-yet-badass princess in our fantasy stories (many times, they use those two elements to put some contrast to the character like Fiona in Shrek movies), but Nausicaa deliver it in spades.

That was a while AFTER the thing about Nausicaa

Although when you put 2 and 2 together to make 5, there's always the thought that he's somehow nominated Anno as a possible successor!
