FLCL is getting Season 2 and 3 by Production I.G. to be split into two cours. (for 12 episodes in total)

I don't even know what to think. FLCL is as close to perfect as any anime of its length has ever been, IMO. I don't want that tarnished in any way. Gainax is effectively defunct, and most of the staff will surely be different. I'm very scared.

But then - this is new fucking FLCL. This is a series that helped make me into an anime fan. How can a part of me not be excited? It's crazy to think this is happening after 15 years.

Talk about the most random of sequels to greenlight. Don't get me wrong I'm rather happy about the news, but it doesn't feel like a 2nd season was needed. The original tied itself up pretty nicely, so what would this even be a about?

Production I.G. brought rights for FLCL last year. They have to do something with them. BTW, judging by the post FLCL creator and character designer will be involved in production. Although Tsurumaki will serve as supervisor while Psycho-Pass S1 director is handling the actual direction.

I hope they just have the rights to broadcast it and have nothing to do with actual production.

Anyway - I doubt anything good can come from a sequel when there is zero need for one.

I just can't believe this is happening... The original's reputation/enjoyment won't ever be tarnished for me.

Just going to have to...somehow contain excitement for this 1 cour sequel.

This is definitely where most of my concerns are currently. So, just gotta wait and see who is listed later and then, adjust expectations (if possible...) accordingly.

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

Yeah, this has "Fam" written all over it. I was prepared to be at least modestly hopeful, but that plot synopsis has me pretty much despairing of the whole project. Let's be honest - the odds were never good that this won't be a disaster, even before adding in any details. Now that those are trickling in...

I want so much to argue about all this Fam hating but I won't. Fam has worse characters but better plot. So it's a wrong comparison.
