Something more... taboo
I'm looking for manga or anime, preferably manga since it tends to be more... "open" than what often gets aired on TV.
I'm a big fan of Shoujo and Josei genre stories. Lately I've been wanting to find some stuff with more socially unacceptable plot lines. So basically, any large age differences, homosexuality (on either side), incest, gender bender and other things of that nature. Let me just state now that I am absolutely not looking for pornographic material. It must have a good story line or its a waste of time, although an occasional bit of nudity is acceptable (if it fits well with the plot). I've been reading No Bra and Bitter Virgin lately, and they both hold some interest, but I want more. Any ideas? |

For anime:
I second Koi Kaze. It was executed very well. Gravitation - deals with homosexuality, age difference, and bands. Sort of. For manga: Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo suru (I love my little sister) - there's an OVA (and a live action film) too. I think it's a bit overdramatic, and there's some smut that I would prefer not to have in there, but I really don't like most shoujo anyway, so go figure. Yubisaki Milk Tea - guy who likes to cross dress. Family Compo - deals with gender reversal (the guy lives as a woman, and the woman lives as a guy). Sorry, I don't read/watch much taboo stuff. Hope this helps. |

I can’t recommend Kyoko Okazaki’s works enough, who is, seriously, the best josei mangaka I’ve come across so far. Among them (not a lot, unfortunately), I heartily recommend Helter Skelter which deals with various issues such as women’s vanity, society’s obsession with beauty, hatred and desolation, and River’s Edge, a bleak tale of teen anxiety and obsession without resorting to the usual melodrama tropes most shoujo fall in.
Kiriko Nananan is a master when it comes to delivering subtle poignant emotions, particularly with her title Blue. Sensitive and realistic in tone and style, it's yuri done right. |

Myself yourself has some. If i tell you which it might give away some of the plot.
Theres also gender bender in Kashimashi ~ Girl Meets Girl . For girl x girl there is Strawberry panic. Kodomo no Jikan fits nicely with student x teacher ( i haven't seen this one but i've read some of the manga so i'm not sure exactly what the anime is like) Last edited by SeedFreedom; 2008-07-28 at 19:36. The Day of Revolution would be perfect for you.
A guy who discovers he is actually a girl, pretty much. You can imagine what follows, I guess, so I won't say more. Best manga I have ever read, really funny and catchy, yet kinda sweet ^^ |
