Reluctant betrayal

I'm looking for some good examples of characters who betray their friends/allies, but not out of greed or anger or personal schemes. Cases where a character feels that it's "for the best" or maybe someone else is being threatened or for some other reason the person has no choice but to betray and/or deceive his/her friends; it's not a matter of personal gain but rather perceived necessity. Could be the main character, or a past character from a side-story/background story. Emphasis though on the character's personal turmoil with the knowledge that (s)he is hurting his/her comrades. Also, the bigger the betrayal or the consequences the better.

Shiki (2010)
Natsuno doesn't accept his fate and betrays his kind for a perceived need to help the humans, even going as far as planning to kill himself in the process.

Fate/Zero (2012)
In the end the protagonist betrays both his employer and his servant out of a perceived necessity. And it's not the only betrayal happening throughout the show, either.

Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? (2013)
Leticia betrayed her friends to protect them. It's not told through her perspective, though.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014)
Archer betrays his team because of his personal principles.

Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu (2014)
The parasyte, after switching hosts, betrays his new host because he feels that it was necessary.
