I had no expectations for this, and I was pleasantly surprised. Action-packed and overall just good fun. The only thing that didn't quite seem to fit was the enemies turning into cards (I didn't know about the card background of the show), but I can live with it. I loved Satou's Tiger & Bunny, and I hope this will be as much fun.

I see this show as rooted in series like Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. It looks like it will have Watanabe's signature alignment of two guys and a girl as well. I can't say I was enamored of either of the male characters though. I don't like jokester characters like Favaro all that much, and Kaisar so far just seems a humorless, but relentless bounty hunter. The girl has more appeal, but she's still pretty much a cipher in terms of personality.
That said, I'll stick with this for a while because of the premise and the show's potential. I signed up for a fourteen-day free trial at Funimation so I could watch this and Psycho Pass 2. If they prove worth it, I'll continue paying for the next couple of months.

I thought I'd give this show a go after I saw a few gifs of the demon-girl fighting and it being jokingly referred to as "Dark Souls: The Animation". It really wasn't what I was expecting but I still really enjoyed it. Here's hoping the animation and the overall quality of the show stays as good. Although if I had one complaint, it'd be that the sound effects during some of the fight scenes felt.. lacking or flat.
Favaro's fun enough and I do like him but Kaisar's relatively boring. I like all of the MCs from a purely aesthetic point of view (well, minus Favaro's mullet), and I'm really hoping that the demon-girl doesn't turn out one-dimensional in terms of character. It's a bonus that she reminds me of Zero from Drakengard 3. Yeah, pretty much! When I first saw him I thought of a more handsome (lol) Space Dandy. |

The two main male MCs don't interest me and kind of annoy me actually but the women is potentially interesting.
It has a nice dragon in the beginning and it has good animation. Not something I'll watch when it comes out but I'll do it when I'm bored. Also, that hair on favaro has me cringing. |

Glad to see that Favaro didn't take an instant shining to the girl just 'cause she's on the quest to find her mother. He's still as conniving and unscrupulous as ever as he sold her out the moment he learned he could earn some cold hard cash. Although, I did notice that her story did manage to itch his conscience just a bit.
I dunno what to say about Amira as she mostly comes off as an OP character who threatens to suck the fun out of the fights if she continues to one shot giant demons. And when she's not tearing apart demons limb from limb, she's passing off as an innocent pup-- woman who's short on common sense and knowledge. (Nice gap moe there guys.) For me the highlight of the episode was the neat dance sequence which was wonderfully animated. It's little surprises like that that sell me the show. And just like the previous episode the show continues to mix humor and intrigue in the right amount. I hope it continues to keep doing what it's doing. |

Favaro got himself a tail ROFL
He also got into an interesting contract. This anime is pretty amusing too. The white haired demon girl Amira is very impressive. Favaro's betrayal backfired fast! He's so not getting rid of her anytime soon. Gonna be watching this one.

I'm enjoying the direction the story's taking with Favaro, Amira, and Kaisar being (or about to be) caught in the conflict between the angels and the demons for Amira's pendant. The angels seem to be rather ruthless, doing what's necessary. Whereas the demons seem to be willing to cooperate. And then you have the main cast that are effectively rogues with their own agendas.
Amira seems to be far too powerful, so I'm expecting her to be brought down to Favaro and Kaisar's level (not necessarily in terms of power). Or.. it'll have simply have to be a team effort later on. I love the ED, the animation's great and the music is even better. But the OP.. just feels too "edgy" for me. I like the music from about 1:00 onwards (hoping that's the chorus) but the visuals are a let down. I still like it and it's not terrible.. but I feel it could've been a lot better. |
