really, Yagami Kou?

An ANIME character designer want to improve herself -> go to French?????? Obviously there are only 2 place if you want to improve your anime character design skill, the 1st one is obviously Japan, followed by Korea. China is good but mostly still below Japan/Korea's level. I'm dreadful to think how her art is going to evolve in French .. maybe it's going to become tumblr-like with big nose? *shudder ...

...She's a video game character designer, though.

Indeed. Japan is near the top for story-based games (which is probably why I love it, I have several games that I really just like because I love the story being told), but if you want to improve on other areas, there are better places to learn. Games from other regions have different priorities when they design a game. After becoming queen of game character design in her region, moving to a place that has a completely different set of priorities is probably indeed the best way to seek further self-improvement. Her Japanese peers are probably going to be focused on areas where she's really rather close to perfect, but people elsewhere might look at areas she hadn't even thought of where she still has plenty of room to grow.

Learning western style drawing is only going to ruin her skill. If she wants to take from a different perspective then Korea is the solution. Or if she really wants something different, Hong Kong's manhwa might work since the difference with anime is not that extreme. Road to perfection is long, so as an artist you really don't have time to walk on a different path. It will only delay your progress.

The one who can benefit from learning from the west is ahagon since she is a programmer.

"ruin her skill..." really? Some of the best animators in Japan drew a great deal of inspiration from American, Russian and other Western nations' famous works. True, if she forgets how to do anime style then she'll be in trouble. But like I said, there are aspects of characters that don't necessarily interfere with that style, but people who are looking at things from a purely story-driven, anime-style viewpoint are going to miss them, while people who were trained in a style that puts focus in other areas will notice them and suggest improvements that don't interfere with what's good. Yes, in Japan she could become the best anime-style character designer in Japan. With a little polishing in other nations, she could become one of the greatest and best-known designers in the world. I'm not talking about her learning to draw gritty or ugly American animations, I'm talking about her learning to put a few subtle tweaks into her characters that others wouldn't notice but would, when applied, raise them to a new level.

western art quality has dropped drastically in these recent 5-10 years. Nothing to learn from them anymore. Anyway, this discussion is no longer about New Game so I'll end it here. Don't want to bother the others.

Cool. And you won't get much argument from me about decline in quality since frankly I haven't liked the quality of animations or games from the West since probably the 90s. But again, even then, Western designers will be looking at things others ignored and thus help her to raise them to a new level of perfection.

Anyway, I'm kind of curious how New Game will proceed after this. It's a huge change for Aoba to go from basically an apprentice who can't even hope to rise to master/boss level because of her superior to the actual head of the department. Many stories would indeed end here, with the heroine having achieved the position she aspired to, wishing farewell to her former mentor/superior, and stepping forward with trepidation mixed with confidence that somehow she'll make things work. Sounds like this manga's not going to stop here though, and I'm curious how they'll progress with the heroine now going from trying to achieve her dream and make it a reality to trying to preserve and protect that reality while raising it to loftier heights. I don't know, it feels like if you saw the hero work his way up and slay the demon king and are then told that you're now going to watch as he dedicates the rest of his life to helping piece the world back together again.

OTP is now split. If we ever get a Season 3 I'd like to see how the remaining members of EJ go about their job minus their... uh... inspiring boss.

Not only did she give a good return to the publishers by announcing on stage in front of everyone just who was really responsible for the characters and a majority of the content, she also in a way helped the company out of what would've been a bit of a jam for them. Just like how the publishers didn't want to advertise with the name of a CD no one knows, they would be reluctant to invest all that much money in the next game if they didn't have a huge name like Kou to bring in an existing fanbase. But now the press knows who's really responsible, after the hype's built pretty well, and when the time comes for the next game to be made, Aoba's name will at least have some recognition. This will mean more security and greater investment from publishers, as well as greater confidence in placing Aoba's name prominently on the cover. Truly a great parting gift.
Kou did the job even better than that. She never flat out said that Aoba was the actual designer, she just mentioned they worked together on them (which is actually true) so people will probably think that Aoba helped Kou as a student instead of sharing equal billing.

This is actually better for the company and should still keep the publisher happy because now they can get Aoba on the next game with the tagline "student of the legendary designer Yagami Kou" which will probably work wonders for sales.

And, best of all, it's still technically true. All of it! The road to get there wasn't as straightforward as it gets painted but everything still works out at the end and everyone saves face. Sasuga Yagami-san!

Now onto the episode proper: I liked the episode, especially what they managed to do with Momo. She got to know the situation with Aoba through Hifumi and managed to correctly deduce the rest and even helped Aoba get proper closure with the Kou situation. If she keeps up she can reach top tier girl status. Hopefully we'll get some more New Game in the future so she can shine for a bit.

Actually, I believe she said that Aoba did MOST of the character design. So it's a double. Yes, she's been identified as Kou's protégé, but above and beyond that she's also been given credit for personally creating the majority of the character content.

Nooo Kou gone. Who's gonna shock people with their panties now? Well, hopefully we can see her again by season 4 or something.

Fun stuff, though I feel the problem was the new characters came in too late and thus feel a bit rushed, and then Nene, Nene everywhere. Still nice to see Hifumi and Aoba grow as people into mature employees. And it seems Kou has been learning behind the scenes too even if we didn't see her much. I feel sorta bad for Rin though; what's she gonna do for the next few years? Buy a Rin pillow.

And of course, Mozuku. Cat needs more exercise.

Finally, the background music is sorely underrated, always liked it.

We’ll likely be in for a bit of a wait for the soundtrack – the album for season one came out January of this year, and I’ve not heard anything about the second season's album as of yet. Hopefully, I’m not looking hard enough.

Watched the final episode today.

Kou wants to train and improve more abroad... a wise decision doing it while she's still a bit young. Everyone else seems to have matured more as well... Hifumi talks more now. Also surprised this went the same way as Hina Logi - what I mean is the addition of more yuri in the final eps.

Would watch again if there would be another season.

8/10

The first of those really needs to be put in an NSFW tag. Don't know what to think about the second. Funnily, I somehow stumbled on the original opening that the first song was from. Why would something like Devil Angel Djubril 4 have such a catchy and cute tune for their opening vid? And why is the opening vid for a series so fond of tentacles actually cleaner and more work-safe than this?

Just started season 2. God, I can't believe Aoba won the character design contest. Those characters are soooooooo cute! Man, the English dub is so comfy. Hearing Nenechi say "Yeaaahhh boiiii" is hilarious.

Which episode is this? I’m real curious to see it for myself now!
