One of my favorite anime Studio Ghibli is releasing a TV series finally! Sanzoku no Musume Ronia (TV)

Synopsis
The story is about a girl named Ronja who is the daughter of a chief of a tribe of bandits and lives in a huge castle in the forest with the bandits. The story follows Ronja as she encounters mystical creatures, makes friends with another young child like herself, and experiences life in the forest.

i just watched episode 1 and 2 and it was great i think i can get used to the cgi fast

It was entertaining actually, one of the most lighthearted OP songs I've heard from this season. It might take me a little time to get used to that CGI but overall was done well in terms of characters and gimmicks.

It was pretty bad, to be honest. Even though they showed 2 episodes back-to-back, nothing really happened that couldn't have been shown in a single episode. The story is nothing special, and the fact that it has 26 episodes is actually a strike against it. The book only has enough material for two movies at most. 3 hours worth of material is going to get padded to 8.6 hours.

...You know it's ghibly, right? Leaisure pace is one of it's tradmarks. Same goes for it's original work. Of course you could easily make one or two movies to cover all events, but it simply wouldn't work because that.

Regarding length: At least the pacing of the first two eps were extremely closely matched to the 1984 swedish live-action movie - at a 3:1 time ratio.

I have a hunch that they might keep it up this way for the rest of the series (keeping close to the movie), since the movie's scenes are properly matched for episode cuts and a few action cliffhangers if stretched at the same ratio, while filling up the full 26 episodes.

While dropping the two nude scenes from the movie of course, since it's Japan.

I never though I would say something like this about middle aged hairy robber... but I think Mattis is most moe character of this season.

This CG isn't that bad, it's vibrant and certainly expressive. Some facial movements give off an uncanny valley vibe at times though.

I found it to be pretty adorable and also nostalgic. It reminds me of how I have read this story as a kid and imagined how it would be to live there in this forest as a kid with "Graugnomen" and "Grausedruden" and what not.
Mattis is such a moe dad, leaving his work early to be there for his daugther. What a lovely father.^^

Though "rice porridge" in the middle ages of europe? XD

Introduced in the 15th century actually.

I don't remember, do they eat risgrynsgröt (or julegröt) in the original? Way Astrid Lindgren writes fantasy, i could see her putting that in there...

I'm pretty sure it was Hirsebrei, millet gruel, though it is so long ago I might be wrong. Well, whatever it was Ronja liked it a lot. And her daddy looked good with it on his face.

It's fine, but just not my thing.
Has more of a fairy tale vibe.

Sweet episode.
You could say that it was a boring and weird episode, but if you see it the way that Ronja had never before left the castle, it makes sense that she is so giddy about every huge tree or river or lake she comes across.

I was a tiny bit disappointed by the Grey Dwarves. In the book they were little men and quite dangerous actually as they did injury Ronja and said stuff like "drink her blood and break her bones" bsides the "scratching and biting.
Here they looked like creepy owls with sticks. XD
Though I understand why they made them cute-creepy and not omfgtheygonnaeatmeforrealsies like in the book. After all they want little kids to watch it.

But so it just didn't quite feel threatening and just weird with them doing nothing but chanting and hitting the rock with their sticks. Would have been different if they had hit Ronja with the sticks and bones.

But anyway, it was a pretty looking and lovely episode. And next we gonna see Birk, this will be good. <3

That's really the primary staple of Lindgren's books for older children though. Mixing carefree children with a gruesome danger, overcoming both the danger and growing themselves in the process while also - usually in bittersweet scenes - losing some of their innocence.
Thinking mostly of Lindgren's three major fantasy books. Mio, Ronia and Lionheart. They all have the above at their core, with the level and explicitness of it more dictated by their sequential writing than anything else. Ronia is down the middle regarding it all.

As in, the disappointment felt isn't all that tiny, even if it was to be fully expected.
