With ele being so fragile, you expect to make up for that by hitting really hard but they don't so much. I only ever really used fire in the first game cause it's what killed things the best and sadly it's the same here, I like using air and even water but they don't kill nearly as well as fire does. And thing about attunements is I'm unlikely to swap during fights which means having that ability is abit useless, I do swap but thats after and before fights. Too concentrated on killing stuff to give a damn about changing. However there is one good thing about ele's and that is Summon Fiery Greatsword, now that kicks arse, the one skill that's pretty much got a permanent place on my bar. But I hear Hounds of Blath are good for soloing so will be using them as well.

My lvl 50 human noble Vigil warmaster warrior with a "dead" sister is definitely a goody-two-shoes. There are some branches along the way (at one point you can pick between one of three Vigil missions, and that one has two branches also), but I suspect that the other branches (I chose to help the Skritt) are also about saving everyone. But if you chose one of the other factions and not the Vigil, I suspect you'll get less of a "save-the-world" storyline. Haven't been there with other characters yet though, so can't confirm it. But the non-faction human-racial stories have all been "paragon" so far.

An old photo of my norn necro with guildies.
Yes, this is the nudist guild where we save Tyria from certain doom, without pants. -==========- I'm planning a 5-man tournament team with some of my IRL friends. It's 5 Asura Mesmers, with the character names: Illusionary Warlock Illusionary Berserker Illusionary Duelist Illusionary Warden Illusionary Mage And they are going to all look identical. Is the Vigil storyline between 30 and 40 where you protect the peace delegation played by every race that joins them? I didn't really feel like a goody-two-shoes during any of that. The peace agreement was something deemed necessary by all sides and the first mission where you burn down the tents of sleeping renegades and kill them as they wake up feels much more "pragmatic" than "paragon" to me. Maybe it's just the way each race approaches the dialogue? My charr character always comes off as a neutral, efficient, military-focused "doing what needs to be done to fix the current situation at hand" type, exactly as intended.

All these people reaching such high levels in a matter of days is making me think i'm doing something wrong
Is anyone else making sure they get 100% completion on every map they go through? Some of those vista's are even more annoying than maple story jump quests |

I also go for 100% on every map. I feel like I cheated when I youtube vistas I can't find but after spending an hour on one and failing, only to discover it was an extremely obvious solution, I sometimes still do it. |

Getting to 80
1: You don't work or go to school or have any obligations and play 14+ hours a day. Then since pre-release, 80 is easy from any method. 2: You have a group of friends who are feeding you materials to do crafting to lv400 for more than just 2 specialties. You can't buy it because trading post was down for the majority of the time yet people still got to 80. 3: You got access to exp pots (EXP booster from black lion chest, cash shop, or from player-made food) and optimized your questing. This means: Hearts/events involving killing things. Killing bosses/escorting = bad use of time and slow levelling. The best is those events where you defend a location from several waves of mobs. You stay for only ONE wave, drop all your aoe-skills and walk away. In 10~20 minutes, you'll get gold for very little contribution. 4. Group story quest. Power through storyline quest with a few friends. #3 is what I do as I only play 2 hours a day on weekdays and 8 hours on weekends. -==========- I don't suggest rushing to lv80, it doesn't work well for everyone. A lot of people already became inactive/dropped GW2 after hitting level 80 in 3~5 days. That's pretty sad and shallow if you ask me. They have the asian-mmorpg mindset of grinding to max level and that's the end of that game. Another problem of rushing to 80 is lack of everything, everything's in bits and pieces. People are whining that they cannot afford things. Well that's because they rushed to 80 and didn't go through it normally. My goals were in dungeons, PvP and WvW, not leveling. So hitting a fast 80 meant nothing for me. I have OCD so I have only 14 maps visited with 100% completion, most power-levelers have something like 30+ maps visited with 10% completed on each map. Because they skip things that waste time. I can't even do my dailies because I'm online for such a short time Q__Q |

I don't really think you need to spend money on trading post gear for Mami while leveling, engineer is extremely easy to solo with and I regularly kill veteran enemies and enemies 4-5 levels above me while wearing gear that's 5-20 levels below me. The renown heart vendors also tend to have good stuff and it's really cheap at low level.

Any level 80 gear worth anything won't be purchasable. They are account-bound upon buying them with extremely rare materials (skill points, badges)
The only thing I bought from TP was materials to level crafting. The kind of material that can be only obtained by salvaging equipments and not npc-bought or harvested. |

Now that this thread has some decent activity and some time has passed, what server is everyone on?
I'm on Fort Aspenwood, though I pretty much stay in Overflow unless I'm WvWing. Met so many people from a bunch of different servers. I love this game.

Sea of Sorrows, though I may end up transferring elsewhere at some point. I don't actually know anyone on the server besides my RL friend who I don't actually play with and I'm 100% convinced will quit the second he dings level 80. That and, I may want to WvW eventually and this server seems to get stomped into the ground on a regular basis, though that could change with time. It's also apparently an unofficial oceanic server which I didn't realize when picking it, which makes a decent % of the playerbase incompatible with my time zone.

I'd say Leatherworker > Huntsman because Leatherworking covers making purses or w/e they're called that increases your inventory size. Cooking is actually the most reliable (not the right word, but it isn't 'best') trait. You can buy all the mats from an NPC and the exp gained from levelling cooking from 0 to 400 is enough to turn your lv70 character into lv80. Not to mention you can make all sorts of food that gives you performance boosts and EXP boost. Don't forget level 80 isn't the end. Leveling past level 80 gives you additional skill points which can be used to purchase legendary gear. So having cooking to make EXP pots is important in that sense. -====- I'm in Tarnished Coast. I do just about everything from PvE, dungeon, RP, WvW, sPvP, tPvP. While I picked TC out of a hat, I really like how TERRIBLE this server is in WvW. It makes the presence of my guild, friends and I feel so much more significant. It's probably the most RP-oriented server of NA servers. I don't know if it was good luck or bad luck to chose this server =/ But no major complaints. Anyone love the stereotypical rich kid who bought himself commander status (100 gold) and always spams in map chat in all-caps lock? XD I'm sure every server has one or more of those. |
