Ok...just read the chapter.

Apparently Kumagawa's "Bookmarker" minus isn't just simply an ability that converts plus to minus. It actually brings the target down to exactly his (Kumagawa's) level.

To quote Kumagawa: Physically, psychologically, skills, mental acumen....all of it will be as weak as I am. If this does not throw you into despair, I'll readily admit defeat.

Good plan.....pity he has such a massive inferiority complex.

As Medaka says it, this ability is only truly scary if the template (Kumagawa) really is as weak as he thinks.

To quote Medaka: You who fight for the minus.....You who fight while carrying their pain upon your bosom. How could someone like that be weak?!



Also, to clarify..."Hundred Gauntlets" is not Kumagawa's original minus. It's actually the minus that Ajimu gave Kumagawa in exchange for his "Bookmarker", which he then developed into "All Fiction".

After he traded it back for "Bookmaker", it returned to Ajimu as "Hundred Gauntlets" instead of "All Fiction". We can assume this means that a minus's nature/ability highly depends upon the nature of the user.

Medaka's been given Kumagawa's strength. That added to her own abilities will more than likely assure her winning this fight.

In my opinion, the only thing that could ever reform Misogi is a victory. A pure, honest victory he's earned in which he defeats someone equal to, or greater than him in strength. But that'll probably never happen, especially not against a girl who succeeds at everything, even when she fails.

Everyone Medaka has reformed so far (Kouki, Mogana, Shigusa, Oudo) she's done so by either appealing to their hearts or being stronger than them. She couldn't do that with Misogi in either accord. And now he's made the mistake of making her even stronger than before.

I can only wonder if Medaka will realize this and stop fighting him. Because it doesn't seem like it'll do any good. It looks like she's forgotten that she originally wanted to save Misogi instead of defeat him.

Misogi´s "Bookmaker" is effective and it prevents Medaka from using her "The End" to shift her body into Mars Mode, I think. The problem is: Misogi thought, he was weak and useless. Medaka, who now is bounded on Misogi´s niveau, however shows, that he is a little more amazing than he thought.

Quite funny, normally the Big Bad loses, because he underestimates his enemies, but in this case, it looks bad for Misogi, because he underestimate HIMSELF.

A couple of things that I noticed reading recent chapters...

Spoiler for Chapter 89:

I really loved Shiranui turning Koga's words back against her when discussing why Medaka has to fight Kumagawa. That thing about "beating Class minus 13 with a straight face" is clearly meant to be a callback to Koga's own words to Medaka after the Secretary's battle - and Koga knows it. (Also, since Shiranui wasn't present for this, it shows me once again that she is the true God Mode Sue of the series.)

I still am amused with how quickly people are seeing Kumagawa's vision of Ajimu as "the real Ajimu" and how she'll be the next big bad (assuming the series doesn't end soon after the Medaka/Kumagawa fight). As others have noticed, she already told Zenkichi that Kumagawa sees "the version of me in his heart". What's more, if Medaka ever sees her, I suspect we'll get a third Ajimu, given that Zenkichi's version snarked at him but was generally nice (like Zenkichi) and Kumagawa's version was rude and in your face about the world being horrible (like Kumagawa).

"Dark" Medaka again? Seriously, this is starting to be repetitive. And this "true" Kumawaga is boring. I prefer the All-Fiction Kumawaga. He has more life.

Perses Mode was used against Kumagawa in Middle School. She just goes apeshit and attacks without considering the situation until after she calms down. Which is what left her emotionally scarred when she realized that she didn't help him at all.

How exactly is defeating Kumagawa with his own strength going to reform him?

If anything it'll just make him realize that he is strong enough to defeat Medaka. Which in turn won't mean anything if Medaka beats him, or kills him since he no longer has "All-Fiction" to reject his death. I figure at some point she'll have to realize that she's forgotten that she originally wanted to make him happy.

Well his reason for wanting his old minus back was to beat the plusses and be the shounen underdog that clawed his way to victory through endurance and determination. Instead he's going to see Medaka do the same thing to him instead. Maybe like you said it will make him realized that he wasn't quite as weak and an underdog as he thought.

Yeah, but I don't think solving the whole problem is that simple. Making him realize that's he's strong probably won't change his mind. It probably won't make him step down or disband Class -13. And no matter how strong he is, Medaka doesn't lose. Maybe Medaka will succeed to some extent in making him happy, by making him realize that he's not weak.

But I don't think that'll stop him or Class -13 cold. The other Minuses have yet to arrive and "That Child" hasn't shown up yet. She might help Kumagawa, but save him....that remains to be seen. We just have to wait and see how their fight plays out.

The fact that Medaka doesn't lose definitely takes something away from her fights. It's like watching a pro-wrestling match where you've been told who will win. If she manages to change Kumagawa, I really don't see where it's going to go after this. Unless she herself turns evil or something and Zen has to stop her. I really don't want to see Kumagawa convert like everyone else. It's boring.

Which is why I think the manga is far more enjoyable when she's not in the picture, (ie, pretty much the entire Minus arc so far).

Oh, I know. It's why I don't read many action mangas (and avoid most shounen jump in general). Too predictable and drawn out for my tastes. But at least most mangas don't tell you straight out the lead is perfect and can't lose.

It's why I root for the underdogs. At least their fights are interesting and it's nice to see that they give their all even if they don't have a chance of winning.

Maybe this is the final battle of the manga after all, it sure does have that final battle atmosphere going for it. With characters from the beginning of the manga showing up, cheering for Medaka to win. Heck, even the King and his shota is there for support it seems....

Akune and Kikaijima are fresh out of the hospital as well.

It was one of the most shocking and awesome moments in wrestling history. Back when it used to actually be good, anyway. Haven't watched wrestling in 10 years now.

I doubt very much that this is the final battle of the manga,there are too many things that need a answer for a satisfactory closure of the story.
1We do not know what Zen really is.
2We still do not know what is the relationship between Zen and Ajimu.
Speaking of Ajimu the first time Zen met her after he dead she told him that maybe was to soon for him to being here than kumagawa which makes me think that if Zen would not have died against Kumagawa Zen would meet Ajimu the same sooner or later, the problem is to understand why (and this is another mystery to be solved).
3And Shiranui herself is a big mystery.
4The rest of the Minus - 13 class and that child named by Kumagawa during thediscussions with Nanze.
I would say that the manga has much to tell after this fight Medaka vs Kumagawa.

This is something a lot of us want to see. How Medaka would react and respond without her emotional crutch. Zenkichi said he'd protect her from emotional harm, from people like Misogi. If she defeats Misogi here without absorbing his "Bookmaker", she'll have proved that she doesn't need him to protect her because she can do it on her own.

If he loses his way, and willingly turns evil, who would blame him? He's more attuned to the mentality of a Minus anyway. Shiranui, Mukae, even Misogi in his own fucked up way likes Zenkichi. If he joins, he may end up helping them, reforming them like he did Mukae and Shiranui.

I can't read the untranslated comic, but I don't think that just beating Misogi is going to reform him. Isn't that just what she did in Middle School? If it didn't work then, why would it work now? I seriously doubt the comic is over with all the loose ends and possibilities left.
