Fairy Tail Anime Episode Discussion Thread [Episode 165 and Onward]

Yes, this is why I thought it was her best and worst fight. We all know she would have won, and Flare wasn't that strong. And several people realized it; it wasn't clear in the manga, how many people realized RT cheated, but the anime shows quite a few. Honestly surprised, with the integrity of the games at stake, that no one says anything and that the referees didn't notice. It's one of my bigger issues with it, the fact that if you can cheat in the games, then it is pointless to compete.

Oh, and FlareKnight, Warren couldn't have done so, because that would have been cheating. Lucy had to win this on her own, with no outside help. Still, Natsu heard her cry and dealt with it.

At the very least, we get a good impression of how much she has improved. I'd just like to see more double summons and combination attacks.

As for Raven Tail... yes, we all hate them. I won't say anymore, but we do get hints as to Ivan's goal in this, although I still think he's a bastard.

Edit: And Max Cola Power, funny you should mention that... dunno if you were reading the manga, but the games ain't over yet...

Awesome episode!

First off I have more bad news to Lucy... it's never mentioned in the manga (so no spoilers)but this fight happened on Lucy's 18th birthday (maybe it wasn't mentioned due to the time jumps effecting the date of her bday, but again speculation nothing confirmed in the manga). However the date is July 1st and a chapter cover in the manga revealed Lucy's birthday is July 1st. Must really suck having your first amazing victory robbed from you... ON YOUR BIRTHDAY. No wonder she was crying at the end...

I read the manga so knew what was coming, but damn it... it was hard even to watch in anime form too. Going through RL frustration in a Miss Fairy Tail contest on another thread (no details, not fishing for votes) in it's final round Lucy vs Cana and all the damn dupe accounts , but whatever... must not vent or mention it further... maybe me supporting Lucy in that contest is why I kept finding myself cheering for Lucy in this episode even though I knew she'd never win (you know the episode was an outlet for me or something , which is my point here, again not fishing for votes nor mentioning where the contest is) and would just end up trolled after pulling off an amazing attack that at it's max is worthy of being compared to the strongest spells in the series

I was seriously blown away by how well they animated Urano Metria though... I feared they'd get cheap or something. I guess they saved the animation from last time she used it I guess or something.

Oh, and who else laughed really hard when Gemini checked out Lucy's rack by opening the towel

It was a good episode. However, there were parts of Lucy's fight that did not make sense, like why didn't she use Cancer to completely cut Flare's hair, or why Taurus did not react to Flare's nice body. Also, Natsu was the only one noticing that something was wrong and helped out makes everyone else seem clueless. A lot more people should have figured it out or notice that Flare was cheating.

Finally, the biggest gripe of all was that no official declared Flare defaulted because the officials were not able to figure out or sense that Raven Tail cheated, while so many of the contestants and the old annoucer noticed. He could have said something but chose not to.

Other than that, the fight was great. It's like all the previous arcs. Fairy Tail has to lose first before they win it all in the end.

Well won't speak about Laxus or Gajeel, the other none injured DS with excellent hearing (we saw that the others where just being unobservant to there surroundings and just focused on the match) but as to the second announcer Yajima (a previous Fairy Tail member, a good friend of Makarov who was on the same team with him in ages past, and a former Mage council member) well it is clear that he noticed what happened. However, it's not clear if he figured out who cheated and how they did it... clear things he'd need to know and prove to disqualify them officially. However based on his expression it's clear he's gonna have a sharp eye out on Raven Tail and other rule breakers (My speculation I had when I read the manga: Jellal as Mystogan too perhaps? gulp )...

Jura said it... Rave Tail didn't get caught however it's clear someone did cheat to those who truly are masters and understand magic. The bulk of the audience and even intermediate mages might not have noticed though, after all Mavis and Makarov had to explain it to many other members... including Happy who usually explains everything.

My speculation when this chapter came out in the manga was that Yajima was bidding his time for the right moment... he understands politics and knew to speak up now would make him appear an announcer who couldn't stay unbiased and was just supporting his old team. However now every mage of FT and many of the other guilds know someone is playing dirty and will be on guard more. A 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me' kinda thing...

The question is how many more times will Raven Tail get away with this and how much of a lead they'll gain due to it before even Sabertooth, Limia Scale, Blue Pegasus, Fairy Tail and other guilds can't beat them on the ladder-board.

I also remember believing between the two chapters this fight took place over that I was betting Mavis would figure it out... but nope Natsu did.

Oh, forgot to mention... being an astronomy nerd the name Urano Metria is the name of the first star chart with all 88 CONSTELLATIONS for both the North and Southern Hemispheres, not 88 stars (translation problem? Likely on Hiro's end though since the artwork of the attack is more just random stars with no alignment needed for them being constellations). However kudos to Hiro for picking a great name for the spell.

ok just watched the recent episodes,
team B really wants to do things to team A, especially juvia, and the funniest was erza serving to mirajane

lucy is so powerful now i thought flare was going to burn her to smithereens, but she was not equal to lucy, looks like lucy is now among the powerful mages of the guild, but it was sad to see gray lose like that on zero points, it was interesting to see lyon, juvia and gray in the same competition, but the other guilds are crazy powerful.

but i am still upset about one thing, it was jellal, and i thought i'll finally get to see mystogan in some real action

My biggest disappointment with the manga. I really wished it was the ''real'' Mystogan, came back to help them out and fight side by side like a real guild member. He could have also acted as an evil version of Jellal to help out with clearing a name or something similar. But eh....

Anyway, the newest episode was cool. For some reason, I like Flare. ^^

i admit the episode was nice and it was basically what you aspected and im glad that they're animating these fights. Next week is gonna be hilarious because its one of maybe 5 fights currently animated that are worth watching to me. in no particular order. Jellal vs Jura Mira vs jenny Yukino vs Kagura and Laxus vs Alexei and finally the massive DS battle which is gonna be the highlight and needs to be at least 2.5 episodes.
As for the subbed OVA it was funny but i have just one complaint and thats about levy she gets no love in the boobs department bathing suit scene she's flat as a board and its as though she jumps 3 sizes in that epsiode while erza lucy and juvia remain boob-monsters. Happy being a horse and Jet and Droy essentially being playtoys for drunk erza was comical too.
Also am i the only one not curious if there's a Natsu Wendy DJ out there somehwere

Those Raven Tail guys really have a bone to pick with Fairy Tail.
That's making things more difficult than they should have been.
Lucy vs Flare!
It was one scary battle.
The Gemini strategy was a good one. The audience sure loved it ^^
I'm glad Lucy finally showed some strength, but it didn't help much since Raven Tail cheated.

There were too many static and repetitive shots, like if artists got lazy.

Otherwise poor Lucy. It was her best and worst fight at the same time.

What I never understood is why no one else noticed Flare's hair. Especially master!

I never liked this part in the manga, and although it was a good battle, I think this is one part from the manga where I wouldn't have minded them changing it in the anime adaption.

I don't see how one of the commentators, Yajima, can realize what happened without their being consequences.

I know it's all to make us hate Raven Tail, but damn.... I HATE RAVEN TAIL.

I was right, this episode really did it in the emotional department. Sure, the fight animation wasn't the best but it got the point across. And they were saving the budget for Lucy's last spell.

And the situation with Yama-jii is the same as today. He's just a commentator, he's not a referee. Even if John Madden reviewed a play and called it differently from the officiating ref, it didn't change the call. My thing is why in the world do you have such a *weak* referee on the field who can't even distinguish high lvl magics being used? I'd use a Council member as one of the refs since it's such a prestigious event to ensure fair play. But oh boy was he pissed... I don't care if he is 7 years off the council, he's not an old man you'd wanna piss off. Nice touch that Jura picked up on it too - he's a Wizard Saint so it's to be expected.

Aw Lucy, you really need a hug and I'd give you one in a heartbeat. She was doing so well too...

And to think, when people first saw Flare in the manga, the first thing that came to their mind was, hmm, new pure Yandere addition to Fairy Tail? I APPROVE!, now we all want her and Raven Yellow Tail to piss off...

I don't really mind the cheating of Raven Tail. It was clear from the moment they took out Wendy that they aren't fighting fair. Of course it's low but that just shows that Fairy Tail is still too weak. And just for the record there was nothing wrong with the way Narlpudding fought the hidden game.

Anyway there were a few interesting moments during the episode:
The close-up on the female wizard from Sabertooth when Lucy used Gemini
Obra completely nullifying Urano Metria?! Apparently he had some help from the monkey(?) but that's still impressive. If he is that strong then how strong will the others be.
Poor Mavis doesn't have the curves. I prefer her that way though :3
The organizers and Zeref seem to go hand in hand.

I love how most of you forget that Raven tail was a dark guild and the guildmaster is Makarov's son. But seriously FT isnt that week Lucy's a bit boring granted but everyone else is much better this arc stilll has a way to go. The best parts are yet to come

None of us forgot that, i have been looking forword to Raventail's debut ever since the fightning festival arc,
but what i wonder is that they are showing Makarov and Ivan giving tough looks to each other, kind of a little psychological warfare but shouldn't they include Laxus in that too

Same complaint as the others, Why the hell did two - T-W-O - former masters didn't notice anything(makarov's twitching doesn't count) wrong when it was beside them all the time. *sigh* Anyway atleast Natsu noticed. I'm sad that Lucy lost but atleast she was winning AND would have won lest for the trickery. On the other hand, Gray got his ass handed to him by that purple guy without much trouble.

Oh, and I didn't know Lucy was Cana's girlfriend. When did this happen? (Poor Erza, she must have been hurt )

I was highly anticipating this fight because i wanted to see just how much Lucy had improved and she showed it not only did her offense increase but so did her Defense she was able to take a ton of punishment. However, like a lot of others i was so pissed off that i almost put my fist through the monitor.

Why the hell is the ref so weak ass dude who magic sensory level below that of a toddler. In a magic competition the ref's magic should be fairly high level as well to sense cheating. Yajima noticed instantly and he was pissed that is one old dude i would not fuck with. Raven Tail (though i love their guild name) just shit on the whole contest. Im sure even Mavis could sense there was foul play.

I felt bad for Lucy but Natsu stepped up and he was right. Never let your opponent see you cry. I love how Flare started talking down to Lucy when she didn't win it took help for her to win the fight, she lost to Lucy in skill, magic power and endurance. I dont read the manga but i do have a feeling that the games will be interrupted by whatever evil presence that Jellall and others have been sensing.

Fairy Tail may get taken down a notch sometimes but in the end they always show why their guild is Top notch.

I will get very angry if the rest of Fairy Tails fights are like this with Raven Tail cheating and no one stepping in and they continue to lose.

Just because everyone might suspect there is cheating, or some like Yajima and others KNOW there was cheating done, doesn't mean they can prove it.

If someone could have proven who cheated and how, they would have said something. Also this is a magic cancelling cheat, not sure exactly how detectable something that cancels magic is.


The fight pissed me off too, but whatever. Lucy won for all intents and purposes. We all know she is stronger than Flare and we saw how she improved from being able to do Urano Meteor and also summoning two spirits at once as well as having those spirits do combo moves.

Never understood even when manga came out why soo many people hated on this chapter or episode so much. I can understand being upset due to feeling sorry for Lucy, but in no way did this chapter make Lucy weak or anything.

Mavis is most likely one of the stronger mages in the arena right now.

Also the ref is not stupid. My guess is that he noticed the cheating but isn't interfering for the sake of Zeref.
