Though this clip is not new...
"Laugh! Cry! Fight!" as a 'catchphrase' 「笑って, 泣いて, 戦って」 in that order, for this production, to go with the pictures for the second season. 22 weekly episodes, 25 minutes each, to be broadcast every Saturday night at 23:00 on NHK's main channel, starting October 14, 2017. Real world Fujii Souta went for the interval, maybe. Been meaning to drop him in here somewhere. Hereby. We'll probably hear more from him. Last edited by Verso Sciolto; 2017-08-21 at 07:10. |

Really happy to see this show back.
It's so easy to get into this anime again even after being on a half year break. Seeing the characters, shogi creativity, and humor again...ah, Fall is going to be fun.

Lot of Kawamoto sisters in the OP and no Kyoko. This pleases me.
The show picked up right where it left off. It was nice to see Rei being so excited about his new club activities, to the point he couldn't wait to share what happened with the sisters.

Those words were echoed verbatim while his words before and after have changed a little with the context. Sense of place in the world clearly encapsulated in the sentiments expressed but with a different stance on that foundation - with a little more time passed, flowing with the water under the bridge getting into the small town alongside the big river. This first episode, to me, a little hyper, manic even, as though the animators had joined their characters and were on a bit of a sugar rush themselves... Immediately fully immersed despite images of skipping over the surface. Given the nature of the story, we're bound to descend a little further.

The episode does remind us of several stuff from the last few episodes of the first season. We revisit the frustrating feeling of loss after Mr. Shimada's defeat against the current shogi champion, and the rediscovery of life outside of the shogi table with the Shogi Science Club doing their first club activity as a re-established club. There's also some developments with Rei himself. Although he's still a bit gloomy, we see him in a bit more vibrant color, and he now looks forward to telling more stories and sharing his feelings with the Kawamoto sisters.
I still like how the OP continues to reflect the colors surrounding Rei throughout the progress of the story. In sharp contrast, the current ED is both colorful and bleak, still fitting of Rei's ongoing internal turmoil. Never realized that both Sangatsu and Kekkai Sensen would air at the same day. Talk about a loaded weekend!
