Unlike the USSR, of which about 25% of the population was not of the Rus' culture (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus) and 50% non-Russian, China proper is not so easily divided. In China currently 8% of the populace are not Han Chinese. The first step obviously would be to take off Xinjiang and Tibet, which would create two new countries. Then you could give Yanbian prefecture, populated by a plurality of Koreans, to the DPRK, or, since the DPRK is BS, make it a ROK exclave. Stretching things further, take the Guangxi Zhuang region and make it independent. Then take Yunnan, which contains 27 of China's 56 ethnic groups, and make it into a tribal confederation thing. But what then? Even after all this, you would have only taken off about 100-125 million of China's 1300 million and only marginally affected its geography. EDIT: I suppose over an extended period of time you could nurture a separatist sentiment in the unintelligible dialect-speaking parts of China like Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, and stuff, but it would require first destroying the locals' conception of themselves being just as Chinese as the northern, Mandarin speaking peoples. Remember that Cantonese is and was considered to be a proper Chinese dialect and was almost chosen over Mandarin to be the national language when the ROC was created. |

The police would be engaging in interdiction duties like they would within their national waters. That the government has decided those waters now extend out dozens if not hundred of miles does not change the police role...just that they will likely be fired on by other countries coast guards and naval warships...depending on if they cross into other's national waters or interfere in international waters.

Right now, all I know is that the PRC is making itself as an enemy for everyone and they are asking for a new Cold War (at the very least), make no mistake about it. When you ask for trouble like that, you should live with consequences going with your decisions and I'm just expecting to see serious consequences from my own eyes. If there is something to gain from economics by Western countries, they should try harder with all neighbouring countries (esp. India, Thailand and Vietnam). Seriously, I think the West should have never gone to the PRC and contribute to their economic growth, especially not after the 1989 incidents which should have left an unmovable black eye about how the PRC should be perceived as. At the other end, the Chinese people (yes the people) should have taken more serious measures in response to the 1989 incidents (be it a more serious political movement or an armed response at the other extreme of the spectrum); it's probably the only thing where I have a beef with the people (not the government leaders whom I already showed my disdain to). But history showed otherwise, and the West created that monster as we know today by doing business with Beijing. Last edited by KiraYamatoFan; 2012-11-30 at 03:21. |

Or by any sane people. Unlike in the Warring states era, armies have nukes now. A civil war wouldn't be good for neighboring countries either. Each time China has fragmented and reunified it has expanded a little bit.

IMO, if Cina will gone through civil wars, it will start from West China (Tibetan and Moslem Chinese Area).
Tibet has cried for independence since decades ago. And there are many military suppresion on Moslem Chinese Area. (the usual different faith things) |
