Like most, I ignore them. It also depends on the mood I'm in, if I feel bored, I'll go watch or read some hate things and say a few things about it. I mean, these people just like to complain that fans don't have a life and just sit in front of their computer all day, but what are they doing writing that? Sitting in front of a computer. Most never have a good reason to actually hate anime anyway. I don't like arguing with them though...but sometimes I can't help it. They never have good reasons (I just wanna laugh right now, I don't know why)
They say stuff like:

Whats with the big eyes? The mouth never moves anywhere, the hair is spikey. It's all the same thing. The fans are just annoying weeaboos. It's all hentai/ecchii. Every fan is a Narutard

You know, the usual..assuming things. They just make fun of a show they're never seen before. I don't find it amusing to argue with them if I can come up with better reasons to dislike Family Guy than they can for Gundam. That leads to the point where they say "cartoon are for children" well they watch South Park and American Dad and those are cartoons, aren't they? Mess with them, you just stooped to their level of stupidness. That's all I got!

Thats a good point they make fun of something they haven't gave a chance. I just let them talk, to me they are scared to be different from others. So we anime fans are labeled as "nerds" Which is pretty sad.
Anime is no different from a movie, book or whatever else
Only maybe the character features.

I just shake my head at them and ignore them... First off they have no idea what they're talking about if they won't even give it a chance. Secondly, I could care less about what they think because as long as I like it, that's all that really matters to me. Their opinions sure don't hold a place in my consideration

You know I used to not be fond of anime, that was until I watched CLANNAD. Aside from CLANNAD and a few others I don't really see myself as an anime fan but I must admit any anime is a million times better than horrible Western shows like Family Guy or Cleveland Show. (No offense if you are a fan of those shows)

Family Guy used to a clever satire of the stupidity of American life, it used to be good!

:<

But like anything mainstream it was dumbed down to generate moar 'green'.

At first, I was also irked by their existence. But as time goes by, I don't care about them anymore. I think they're wasting their time expressing their hate like that

Usually I get into pointlessly frustrating debates, but I wish I had the discipline to just ignore them more often.

If they hate anime because of a misconception I try to explain that:
- there are many shows for mature audiences.
- it's not just hentai
- it's not all like the stuff that aired in my country (pokemon, dbz, naruto etc)

I feel it's my duty to let them know. If that doesn't make them feel better about anime I leave them alone.

you can deal with it in 4 simple steps!

1: point

2: laugh

3: turn, and continue watching anime

4: Repeat process if necessary

works EVERY time!

I've never really had to deal with them before actually.

Even if I did it probably wouldn't matter. I don't usually talk about anime or manga with other people offline unless I know they like it.

In my eternal life I met quite a few trolls and anime haters.

Trolls - well, there is no need to be angry. Trolls will be trolls, they are usually insecure, sad little toads with little or none social skills (just like me). There are two types of trolls.

Regular Confused Teenage Troll who will eventually grow up from this foolishness. Block, ignore, avoid.
Fully Developed Troll, now this one is hard to deal with. He/she not only has experience and knowledge, most likely he is also mentally disturbed. Same as the Regular one, block, ignore, avoid.

There are also different types for non-troll anime haters.
There is The Ignorant Fool, Adolescent Wannabe Adult, Common Fool and the Popular Internet Hero (This is non-official, I'm not an expert).

The Ignorant Fool does not know what anime and manga is. He or she will most likely think that you are a pervert, child or an idiot. They are quite simple to deal with, ignore them. Ignorants are ignorants because they refuse to actually know anything about the topic.
Adolescent Wannabe Adult - In his/hers eyes, you're still a kid. No time for the old 'cartoons' in his schedule. You should think about your future just like he/she does! How to deal with him/her? Run along Gonzo, you have no time for a child like me, I will never grow up so just leave me alone (seriously, they won't hit you so do whatever you like to make them avoid you).
Common Fool - a Common Fool is a creature that hates because it hates. He is just like a troll, only difference is, he takes no pleasure in what he does. I usually laugh at them, simple creatures they are, easily offended, eventually will avoid you.
Popular Internet Hero - oh the conformism. There is no need to deal with this one. He or she will avoid you at all cost, he or she does not want anyone like you near someone as amazing as he/she.

I don't try to get them into anime, and they don't try to get me into sports. It's win-win.

It is basically the "scared to be different; people who ARE different threaten our bubble so we attack them in our insecurity". Same psychology in religion, politics, and dozens of other arenas.
