Kemono Jihen

Manga 'Kemono Jihen' will be getting an anime adaptation.

Plot Summary
Quote:
When a series of animal bodies that rot away after a single night begin appearing in a remote mountain village, Inugami, a detective from Tokyo who specializes in the occult, is called to investigate.

While working the case, he befriends a strange boy who works in the field every day instead of going to school. Shunned by his peers and nicknamed "Dorota-bou" after a yokai that lives in the mud, he helps Inugami uncover the truth behind the killings—but supernatural forces are at work, and while Dorota-bou is just a nickname, it might not be the only thing about the boy that isn't human.

And picked up by Funimation. Not traditionally a reason to celebrate but I'll take it.

Episode 1

Seems like a somewhat slow start but this show turned out to be much serious than I had thought.

Kabane's personality seems rather straightforward based on what he says out of his mouth. I wonder how much they plan to develop his character this season. Is it also just me or does that transformation look a little bit like Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul? Anyways, it was an alright episode imo, has potential.

Quite a solid first episode. Funny how similar this felt to Dr Ramune but I definitely felt this one had more bite to it. Honestly have to wonder what that lady felt though. I feel like she must have raised Kabane for long time knowing what he was and what he could do. Did she feel any kind of quandary from the conclusion she came to or was she just a straight up Dursley the whole time? I guess we won't know, but it'll be nice seeing Kabane adjust to a more welcoming environment (I hope).

Definitely worth following. I'm usually a fan of stories about yokai, and this one has potential. Good characters, too.

As a manga reader I can tell you it's no surprise to me. Not well-known, but a really good edgy shounen.

Yup, Ajia Do flat-out nailed that. A perfect adaptation of the manga prologue.

Yeah, the introduction is pretty generic, no doubt. Its later when the villains got introduced and the characters' past is revealed that the series really gets into gear

I liked the first episode =03. Kabane was pretty cool I thought. The static deadpan look in his eyes as he destroyed those monsters was SO COOL! Consider me a fan from that alone.

I admit I thought this show took place during the 60s because of the detective's car, so it was a bit of a shock that he pulled out a modern mobile phone from his pocket. I suppose that shows you the charm of remote Japanese villages the only way you can tell in what era it is, is by the technology they use.

Anyway I thought it was a great first episode and one the best ones of the season.

To continue with the full Dursley theme here I wonder if the lady was jealous of her sister, considering the sister is the older sibling she probably was the heir to the inn but manage to escape running the inn and being stuck in that village while the lady is stuck there or maybe the lady fell in love with the youkai as well and lost out. Anyway it must be amusing and bizarre for the manga readers that we're speculation so much about a character we're probably never going to see again.

As for a more welcoming environment I'm going to make the boring prediction that the boy is a bit distant, the yuki-onna girl is very welcoming, boy gets jealous because of that and lash out at Kabane.

As for the innkeeper, this is something I've found to be a common theme with Aimoto series - even the (theoretically) one-off characters are interesting enough to make you want to know more about them.
