Jikken-hin Kazoku: Creatures Family Days

Quote:
This year's November issue of Shinchosha's Comic @Bunch magazine revealed on Thursday that Yanai's Jikken-hin Kazoku: Creatures Family Days manga is getting a Japanese-Taiwanese collaboration anime adaptation that will launch in spring 2018. The anime will air in Japan and Taiwan simultaneously.

The manga will launch in Comic @Bunch in the magazine's December issue on October 21, and it will mark Taiwanese creator Yanai's Japanese debut. The series centers on a family where both parents are mad scientists, and where both brother and sister are modded humans called "creatures." The family members aim to become a "normal" family.

TBH for a show animated entirely by a Chinese studio, this looks pretty good. I've had a sort of positive vibe about this based on nothing whatsoever concrete right from the first announcement, and if anything they've gotten a lot closer to the original artist's designs now.

Any news on this? It's supposed to be airing today, or so I've heard.

It has, but it isn't licensed I believe, so we'll have to wait for fansubs.

So, a boy and three girls (and another guy who's conveniently in dog form most of the time). Call me cynical but it sounds like a harem.

A shame no one is streaming or subbing this, as the premiere was rather charming I thought (at least at my marginal comprehension rate).

Crunchyroll still has three empty boxes on their lineup page, so fingers crossed!

Hmm... interesting. Didn't expect them to be quite so unsocialized from the start. Sounds like they haven't been out of captivity very long.

I think this could be good.

For some reason a Chinese-dubbed version of this is getting translated to English faster than the original Japanese version. I don't feel like watching that version, so I'm stuck at episode 2. (Yes, this is a originally a Chinese series, but the anime is airing in Japan, not China, so the Japanese version is the "original" for the anime.)

...In which I happened to notice for the first time that the spider-girl's arms seem to have doll-like joints, unlike any of the others'. I assume there must be some reason for that.

Rest of the episode is a fairly standard story concept: Tannis gets in an argument with his family (really just with the spider-girl Aisley) and storms out, only to get lost and in trouble and end up needing the very people he was angry with to come save him. I think most of us have seen this trope played out before. In this case it does highlight the fact that their little family is severely lacking in any sort of reliable caretaker. The older siblings are too unsocialized to handle actually being responsible adults for the family, and Tannis, while he knows how society works, is still too much of a child and gets into a child's troubles.

I like the dog brother, he’s an honest and caring individual with a willingness to try to change to fit modern society.

Spider girl has an exoskeleton not doll joints,I think. Except for when they draw her having normal limbs which is about half the time.
