Well, you gotta take your L's with your W's, so I am retiring the "Darth Kyubear" thing for the moment. Seems right now like he is on the level after all, just an extremist without any actual plan. Because his entire data set should be obsolete after this latest event. The show still plays pretty fast and loose with time travel rules, giving the butterfly effect no thought at all.

If the next episode skips another fifteen years into the future, then whatever alternative Matsumoto exists then may well know everything that happened after the crash of the Sunrise was averted.
Or the girl, now twenty-seven, has grown really tired of Matsumoto and has smashed his head in with a hammer.

So far things having going more or less how he's wanted? There also nothing after this episode that suggest that his data would be obsolete if anything it would be still be valuable since similar events are still occurring. Like if the Sun-crash incident doesn't bring about a raise in anti-Al sentiment like it did in previous timeline (aka the actual issue) because the truth of situtaion was obscured then tension between humans and AI will be unlikely to accelerate. Ironically, if Vivy had let the dude who mastermind this die 15 years ago that would prevented this whole thing from happening. Last edited by Applehell; 2021-04-18 at 22:18. |

I'm really enjoying this show. It may not be perfect, but it gets the good parts done well, except for the questionable time travel parts divergence effects.
If I am going to nitpick again, I think the part that bothered me was when all the passengers looked directly at the sun at the end there. If I recall correctly, that should have burnt their eyes, and they would be blind right now. But the dramatic effect was nice.

Last season was wonder egg priority and this season Vivy is my favorite over things I was waiting like Nagatoro and Cramer, original stories that feel their creators put care and love making them.
For a moment, when sunrise started to fall, I was sure any moment Sharon was starting to sing and Vivy was about to witness, in first row seat, the yf21 vs yf19 fight, dunno why.

It certainly does damage your eyes, but blindness would require exposure for far longer than that. |

I was thinking more along the lines of looking at the sun in space. Without the atmosphere acting as a buffer for the suns rays, the effects can be quite damaging. That is the main reason why moon landings are always done on the dark side of the moon. That is true, although they were clear windows. I thought to protect from the sun's ray, the windows need to be tinted darker than that.

There isn't much to be irked by yet. However, this still feels by the numbers thus far. Vivy is the only character one gets time to get invested in, however I get the feeling that's the point. Vivy is supposedly altering the future for the better and it's likely no one will remember her. While being coerced to boot.
There needs to be something additional to be invested in. Time skipping to when Vivy next needs to fix the present to save the future is all we've seen beyond the first episode. There is no downtime/connecting. Death wish ingrate is very moment-oriented and it's nigh impossible to feel anything about him at all. Matsumoto is no longer utterly irksome but still doesn't feel like he adds much aside from enabling Vivy. That said, I still want to continue. I'd just wish it would have more to it beyond Vivy.

Episode 5
Episode was good. Loved the enhanced Diva on stage opening. The engineer / construction AI's seeking to build a place for humans to coexist and their little surprise song was surprisingly effective at tugging at my heart strings. Too bad nothing of consequence happened... Spoiler:
Still loving the show. One release a week is agonizingly slow!

As I predicted last week, their intervention on the ship accelerated AI evolution again instead of halting it. Matsumoto claims this was unintended (yeah, sure) and promise THIS time they will truly turn things around, but I don't need to say I don't trust his bullshit one bit.
In fact, it looks like Diva might have just caused the AI-pocalypse to happen much sooner. If the professor is to be believed, the virus was designed to put the island to sleep for some years. Matsumoto checked the virus himself and claimed it was legit. So why are all the bots going berserk now? If something was wrong with the virus from the get go, Matsumoto would have noticed it, so we can only assume Matsumoto modified the virus himself. He's the prime suspect as far as I'm concerned.

Can't disagree with Matsumoto having other objectives than what he says but I doubt he did any changes to the virus. The Professor clearly has different plans looking at next week's preview and might have inserted some code that was triggered to wake up the "Mother Computer" AI which not even Matsumoto was able to detect. Or it is completely possible that the island's Mother Computer already had developed a fail-safe in case of a shutdown like that and the Professor somehow knew about it. The latter seems much likely and we'll get the answers next week.
