It's probably a good idea to take this with a pinch of salt before the release of any official announcement. This is the Wired after all.

More importantly than the actors, what is the story going to be? A rehash of the anime, a different novel volume, or something original?

I'm dreading the 'something original' part...

And what would be Nagaru Tanigawa's part in this?

Who gonna play as Mikuru? Though there are lots of Japanese actress that can cast as Yuki.

I suppose it should be emphasized that no one has announced any live action Haruhi. This is just rumor/speculation or someone's wish fantasy that is getting the old "gossip transfer mangling".

The post shows an actress listed for Mikuru but she's in a pose that makes it hard to tell whether she actually has the figure for the part and I'm too lazy to look up other pics of her since this *is* just pure speculation.

Every character have unique qualities that even actors and actresses in real life can't copy. Even if they did, they lack the spirit and the feeling in it.

I think the voice actor acctually looks more like Haruhi then that actress...

I didn't think any of the girls really looked like the characters...but hey...I guess you have to base it on how they act.

And what? L being Kyon....O__O???!?!?!! I think a whole butt load of other actors could be Kyon or Itsuki.

I imagined Kyon just being that good ole regular guy...so the best actor would look like a regular highschool student or whatever. L's actor doesn't really fit the part...i mean he was ncool as L but nothing else.

It would be unwise to let an inexperienced actor take the role of the male lead. Since the entire story is told from his perspective, I daresay Kyon will make or break the show.

Take, for instance, Angelina Jolie who acted as Lara Croft in the movie. Sure, she looks exactly like the splitting image of Lara Croft (because the game character was based on her in the first place), but she's just terrible in that role.

Sugita Tomokazu, no one else in the world would be a better Kyon.

Sugita Tomokazu's voice reminds me so much of Shuuichi Ikeda's that I kept expecting him to say "Amuro..." or "Oldtypes can never changed because there souls are weighed down by gravity", or whatever the line was.

Hell... they won't admit they even own Yotsuba at the moment .... it does not give me warm fuzzies about Haruhi -- whether it be the manga or the novels they're yapping about. edit: oh I suppose its the anime ..... perhaps this is a result of that "japanese investment money infusion" they got.

UPDATE FROM OTAKON

Haruhi does not currently have a distributor in the U.S., but Kadokawa has recieved "several offers" for the series. (Read: there's currently a huge bidding war going for Haruhi that may or may not involve the use of ninja assassins to secure the liscense.) Kadokawa says we should see DVD 1 sometime next year.

With that sort of response and so much going in with the licensing, I'm going to bet only the best will pick up this series and give it the life it deserves in North America.

Sounds like Kadokawa is making sure it'll be treated properly by North American companies

Its good to have the series licensed, but there's dozens of reasons why it shouldn't be dubbed. Besides characters sounding totally different from their original characters, I cannot imagine what they would/could do with 'Koi no Mikuru Densetsu', 'God Knows...' and 'Lost My Music'.

I don't even know if there will be a good amount of audience who would watch past episode 1.
