Well, I agree - but he is a Buddhist Priest after all. I mean, Chihiro said "she can't go home because of her situation", and then "I have a responsibility for her". I think it would be only natural for a parent to think that.

So many questions, but a few answers this episode.

Ranko prove once again that she is a spoiler to Chihiro's life. Grandpa was about to say something important, but she had to throw at his head and make him senile again. Yes, I can understand about your unrequited love, but that does not give you the right to get in the way of your crush. Well, at least she provided some clothes for Rea in the end, which is about the only positive thing she has done all series long so far.

As for Rea's "decaying" condition, I think that will be a major focus of the story from now on. How will they figure out a way for her not to decay, unless they end the series with her dying for good.

Also, the fact that she seems to really enjoy the licking of the blood indicates that blood will have an effect on her. What that effect will be is yet to be known. Does it mean she has a desire for human flesh/blood, or will it help her keep from decaying?

Btw, this episode was not too bad with its pace. It flowed better and did not feel like it was dragging.

This week's episode was surprisingly depressing. Seems like we're back at the bittersweet atmosphere the first episodes had. If they won't find a cure, Rea will eventually rot away.

Rea licking the blood at the end was really creepy.

About all the "How can zombies blush" discussions: It goes back to the Hydrangea leaves. As we might remember, the leaves prevent Rea from entering into rigor mortis (I haven't been watching, so don't know how far things have progressed). Now, rigor mortis is basically caused by the lack of cellular respiration, so in order to prevent this Rea's body has to breath somehow. My guess is that the leaves enable cellular respiration one way or another, and that this means hemoglobin is somehow still active, thus allowing Rea to blush.

It is my opinion that Rea's whole body has entered a low oxigen consumption mode so even if it appears she has no pulse, her heart is beating r-e-a-l-l-y slowly. The Hydragenea leaves help her brain to function normally in the low oxygen medium (remember, without a working brain the body WILL rot away . Without the hydragenea she was on "safe mode". It is my opinion that her body is highly efficient, needing little air, water & food (the only waste material she produces now is CO2), but she can't live only on hydragenea, give her a good steak once in a while (or risk her taking a bite of someone when her stomach starts to grumble).

Well, that went off without much of a problem- Chihiro is now living his ideal life now that he doesn't have to hide his zombie pet lover from the rest of his family, and said zombie lover would have an alternate source of nutrition instead of his brain. That romantic night walk fills up the void that have been missing those scenes in the early episodes where they just hang out.

Of course, everything isn't exactly A-okay as they remind us that Rea's nutjob of a Father is still out there with his castrating-happy-goons, and then there's Ranko...

Main problem with that hypothesis is that we know for sure there are a lot of her body which are not connected by blood vessels to the heart, meaning even if the heart is beating, there is no way for the blood to reach the disconnected parts. Therefore, my theory is that the consumption of the leaves somehow activates cellular respiration, allowing even her brain to function.

You mean the parts of the intestine she had to put back in, IMO her body does regenerate (a lot faster than a normal human would), otherwise said organic tissue would have already bloated and would no longer fit her thin figure.

Skin breathing is not enough to provide even low levels of oxigen to a human sized body, that is the reason only small insects lack lungs, anything bigger needs an organ that extracts oxygen from the air. On this episode I think there was an scene at the beggining (before Rea goes out through the window) where you can HEAR Rea breathing.
