Indeed, that's how Japanese school uniforms in the 80s looked like, with the skirt hems conservatively-cut lower than the knee. It wasn't until the 90s did the hems become shorter.

Done rendering... Took me much of the afternoon, and lots of memory.

Edit: Made some fixes:

I initially did the lineart in Coreldraw 12, before editing and finishing it in Photoshop CS.

That is awesome, SA547. Although I have trouble imagining Sheryl joining SMS and piloting something painted like that. It looks more like a temporary paint scheme for a VF she rented out for a concert or something like that. :lol:

It's a "what-if" scenario, given that she enrolled in the same high school course as Alto's, and then the motley crew at SMS decided to hand over to her a spanking-new Messiah with a LAI-built Fire Bomber Signature audio system mounted to the hardpoints.

Hoping it's okay to ask this here... does anyone know where the image used on this webpage is from? It seems like it's cropped from something larger and I'd love to find the original, but I haven't been able to find it even though it seems rather familiar...

Danbooru or any anime picture database are your friends; just type in "Sheryl Nome". Actually it's part of an artbook devoted to Sheryl.

This should be the image you're after. It was originally published on the cover of an Animedia issue and a textless version was included in the official fanbook and at least one other book.

Ah, thanks.

Turns out I had seen the source image before, I just didn't cue in because it looked so different cropped like that. Go figure. Then again I don't normally expect to see characters wearing a lot of jewelery in swimsuit pics. (And speaking of jewelery, Sheryl's got some interesting accesories in that image. If you look closely she's got both a valkyrie and the SMS symbol on one of those necklaces.)
