Well, well, well. From all the posts above this series looks like it will totally be my kind of thing, and after watching ep 1 of the original Soul Eater and re-watching ep 1 of this series I think I will tentatively commit to this one too. ^^

Oh, and Sid isn't dead yet. Can't forget that!
Of course. I didn't mean to undermine that, but I mean to say that the style of it is all very familiar and I can accept it due to it being told from a different perspective in the Soul Eater universe.

And I personally love the SOL genre so it is a-okay.

Man, that's what it means not watching SE. I didn't have this sense of nostalgia as compared to when I've read manga. But whatever.

It was an utterly enjoyable episode, and I'm terribly excited for what's going to happen next considering that Ookubo finished the draft beforehand. BTW, it came as a surprise when I saw that ED was subbed. Damn these fingers, they scare me >.>
Medusa-sensei. Damn Funi, you're so funny~

From the manga of Not! I never would have expected the anime to come out so "K-On"-ish.

It doesn't even evoke much emotion in me at this point that they have even moeified Soul Eater.

It feels like years since they've been updated, btw.
Also, cake.

The fact that Sid is still alive should be enough to tell whether or not this is a sequel or not.

The moment that won me over was Tsugumi-chan turning around on the behest of Maka-chan's note and encouraging refreshment, to behold the majesty of the city she will be destined to protect.

Good Job, Soul Eater: Not. The fact you are able to tell two different genres of stories (gothic-splatterpunk VS slice-of-life-heartwarming) using the exact same setting has made your franchise more than just a story, but a multi-faceted world that is richer and more alive than just any other world that can only tell a single type of story.

And Anya/Tsugumi-chan VS the molester-duo (and indeed, Maka-chan and Soul's demonstration) shows us that this installment has not forgotten the roots of what made it so delightful (besides gut bustingly funny humor):

Drop-dead gorgeously choreographed, astoundingly organic and fluidly animated fight scenes.

Good Job, Bones: With ONE Episode you have
1) Convinced me to go back and finish Season 1 in spite of the fact its ending has NOTHING to do with the original Manga
2) Made me decide to stick with THIS installment all the way to the end. Bring it on!!

I was admittedly going to skip this when I saw it was going to be a slice-of-life spinoff, but something about the main cast intrigued me enough to give it a chance. So very, very glad I did.

There were a few aspects I admittedly didn't like about it, but overall I thought it was a nice start to the series. The fight scene at the end was especially well done... and I'm not just saying that due to my odd fondness of polearms.

Hmm... I wonder if Tsugumi's lack of a cutting edge in her weapon form is due to hesitation on her part at the idea of hurting someone.

Fortunately, for their current purposes, the head of a halberd is perfectly functional as a blunt instrument even without the added lethality of sharpness.

Include me in those who would have preferred that Citrus kept the manga's style, as it'd be one more thing to link it to the older series, particularly where Tsugumi was concerned -- here she actually looks cute, but in the manga you really got the point that she was hilariously generic, particularly compared to Maka.

Personally I like the art style for the original series, but this isn't bad.

For whatever reason really didn't get past the opening chapter or so of NOT so looking forward to seeing what they do with this story. A very different feel, but that's fine. Tsugumi and friends just need to be themselves and that's fine.

Would be one awkward day to suddenly find out that you're a weapon though . Oops about the property damage .

Oh, also LOL, I had one of the strangest tweetreplies last night. I was wondering whether Meg Rock sung the OP, but used Not!'s hashtag when I tweeted that question. I got a reply minutes later which sort of amounted to: "Nope, but I did write the lyrics though!"

Is it bad if I prefer Tsugumi vision?
Is it bad if I prefer Soul Eater NOT over Soul Eater?
Is it bad if I'm still not even considering watching Soul Eater after this and that I like Soul Eater NOT simply for what it is?

It's quite fun to watch, despite I never seen the original series before.

Somehow looks like mixture of RailDex, Ao no Exorcist (atmosphere?) and Machine Doll (same character designs?).

Will continue to watch this, may eventually watch the original SE when this ends.

edit:
for my though in first episode it was not bad and it's good to know more about weapon and master and their school days.
since in soul eater we already have pro level MCs
( Maka and Soul already killed and eat 99 soul by first episode
thanks to that even their test repeat was op -> looking at Stein)

and is it me or Soul look really short in Soul Eater Not?

it's normal to like one type of anime and hate other
k-on style totally different than shounen

one about cure girl and other about creepy fighting girls and boys

though I do hope for it to have some shounen element since it have Soul Eater in it's name
(I guess I'll start reading the manga again to find out since I stop after first chapter)

about Soul Eater anime -> one advise if you ever plan to watch it ( at-least to know about characters background)
STOP at spider arc (forget her name) and start reading the manga

On a random sidenote, I liked the apparent "dancing" theme that they're going with in the OP and Tsugumi's reaction the Maka's performance. The original series had a "music" theme for the same thing (soul resonance), so it's just another way the perspective is slightly shifted.
