Uploadit is lame, now they added a 200k limit for the pics. How I am supposed to post my wallpapers with a size like that? < |>.< |>

I think you can lower the quality of the picture to like 50% with no special change from the quality... (I can get to about 100k of size like that).

Depends on picture, depends on perception of image, depends on eyesight :P - but, since it's only a topic to 'show' the desktop. I don't think it matters too much. If you want the wallpaper, it's usually only a PM away.... usually.
