Red face Mature Dark Anime

I've Recently got into really dark depressing anime, and I'm really craving some more at the moment, and who ever could send me on the right path would be of great help! Here are a few I really liked, and would really enjoy to see alot more of that kinda feel that they had about them. It be a plus if there was some romance involved, not necessarily needed but it would be a BIG Plus I don't dislike happy moments or anything just I do want some type of drama/suspense/Psychological going on..

(sorry if I seem like I'm rambling or not making too much sense, or rushing all this trying to post this before I hit the sack so I have some things to browse later after I get the chance..

-ChäoS;HEAd
-Elfen Lied
-Gantz
-Texhnolyze ( Really enjoyed this one)
-Higurashi no Naku Koro ni ( it's not as dark but I loved it!!! I'd love to see something similar around the mystery department.)

Also Action is good and a great Main character he can be a puss but he has to become awesome bad ass or not by the Middle or End.

Greatly Appreciate All Feed Back
Hope to hear form a few people night all!

Speed Grapher. (highly underrated and unappreciated)
Mnemosyne. (A little overrated, imo, but Mamiko and Rie <3)
Kara no Kyoukai (Five of seven movies currently out, sixth due soon).

Just a few off the top of my head.

Found chaos;head soooooo obnoxious in story and development(character wise)-dunno what was so great about it.

Ghost Hunt-find it kinda dark, not sure about others but i found the vladmir episode pretty grim(situational wise).

Not really sure but Darker than black has a darkish theme story since not much of the story or episodes are uplifting or atleast i thought.

I'd check out Phantom~Requiem for the Phantom. I'm fairly sure it's exactly what you're looking for. Dark crime drama story, depressing situation for the main characters (who are also badass), lots of action, and hints of romance.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Monster or Boogiepop Phantom. I'd also suggest Mononoke and its prequel, the "Bakeneko" (or "Goblin Cat") arc of Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales. If you might like a touch of humor with your mature dark story, there's Hakaba Kitaro.

"Dark and depressing anime" meant "Neon Genesis Evangelion" to me for a very long time. I'm not sure if the new movies are anything different, but the very first movie certainly went down a dark path.

AIR was also fairly depressing towards the end, and that has romance in spades.

Not sure if you have watched these yet or whether they have already been suggested but I recommend these few animes:

Ga-Rei -Zero-
Ghost Hunt
Persona -trinity soul-
TOKKO
Tokyo Majin Gakuen
Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo

Another suggestion:

tactics is pretty much like Ghost Hunt except that I just started watching it, so I would really recommend it but if you like Ghost Hunt, you will most likely like it too.

Surprised no one mentioned Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex yet. Its very dark and has a lot of political drama in it. Try not to get annoyed by the Tachikoma's though, you will probably grow to like them latter on.

Serial Experiments Lain
Berserk (the manga is even more wtf though)
Kakurenbo
Blue Gender (underrated, and sad )
Battle Angel Alita
Kite (adult content in this one though)
Kurozuka
Mnemosyne

and DEFINITELY Perfect Blue. Not enough people have seen it. They should.

All depends on your idea of "dark" though. Apocalyptic and hopeless? Loneliness?

As SeijiSensei correctly pointed out, Monster is the very definition of dark and depressing. You should really try it.
