There were still some good scenes, like Levi's entrance and Porco shitting himself. Turning Eldians into titans on Paradis as a punishment ended up biting Marley in the ass. Hard.
War Hammer is my fav titan design, and yet here it didn't look as "pretty" comparing to the manga.

Erm, so we got like 6 episodes including the one that is released today and available tomorrow... I would like to wait until the whole season is finished. Does anyone have any idea how many episodes there will be? Stupid question, I know... but I need to wait until it's done.

In Demon Salyer witch is about as good as Attack on Titan when I 1st heard they released the movie Mugen Train I could hardly believe it! A story (arc) ended in the anime that I can watch from top to bottom, then I found out that in anime there's also this shit as cam - recorded in cinema thing as in the artistic movies. But I still couldn't stop myself from watching once you got my engine running. You better not tell me it's out there until it's finished, and finished means not filmed in cinema or you might have me on your conscience.

That's why I'm asking. Season 3 has 22 episodes, it's safe to assume the last season will have at least 20 episodes, if not 30. That means it won't be over until the end of summer maybe. *Sigh* I just wish I haven't spotted this thread with the back of my eye, now it's hard to unsee it for like half a year. -.-

There will be 16 episodes this season. Hence, it is on track to end around the end of March.

Fans venting their anger on poor animators on twitter have to be one of the saddest things out of it.

Thank you! So only 16 episodes to end it all... When you think we've been living with it for 7 years and the total episodes of the precedented seasons are just 60, it's relatively insane... OK, gonna hold on for 2 months, then gonna see the whole thing in one go.

Wait what!? They discuss anime on twitter!? That's... information. I never ever had any problems with animators. The only problem I ever had was and is with people deciding to input fillers, probably management, not the animators. If I would to make a rule for anime in general, I would make the Attack on Titan rule. See, you can live with 60 episodes in 7 years, if you really want to! So F%ck fillers!

No it just means to portray people that think it is a necessary evil, not that Isayama thinks it is a necessary evil. It's not like Spielberg is a nazi just because he made Schindler's list.

The fact that Eren is the protagonist doesn't mean much when we know that Isayama claimed his favorite characters are Jean and later (at around the time he was writing this story) Reiner. The first is clearly anti-hawkism, and the second believes that what he did was wrong, not necessary or inevitable (he made a point that it was not inevitable), but simply wrong, and he's so haunted by what he did that he wants to kill himself.

There's a difference between a complete work of fiction and a biography.

Does he ever say why his favourite character is Reiner? He said his favourite character was Jean because Jean likes to say what's on his mind even if it's not the correct thing to say. His reason for liking Reiner could just as easily be similarly inapplicable. And you've ignored the extent to which characters in this setting have idolised Erwin as a very notable "necessary devil" (including Erwin himself). I can recognise that there is still a possibility Isayama's position is more nuanced than I'm giving credit for: Erwin died in the end (in favour of Armin), Reiner is a suicidal mess and Eren views himself similar to Reiner. But anything less than categorically viewing war crimes as an unnecessary evil is still going to be problematic you know.

Eren being the main character doesn't mean he's right or that the writer shares his views.

I can agree that this story is full of situations that challenge the reader/watcher on whether war crimes are necessary evils or just evils, but I think there's a very predominant theme going on since the very start of the manga that ultimately if these crimes end up being committed is due to the human's petty and gritty nature.

I personally see a very harsh judgement on the evil that humans commit because of how their weak minds, driven by their own fears, work. Just think for example at how people reacted when they first realized that Eren could change into a Titan. You just could see how much effort Isayama put in showing the fear in the man that ordered Eren's immediate execution. And nothing really has changed now, since Willy Tybur's plan pretty much hinged in terrorizing all the ambassadors so that they could give Marley their support against Paradis.

Even if this story ultimately told us that it was all inevitable, I would still argue that it's because of the author's pessimistic and fatalistic view on humanity, not hawkism which actually sees war as something positive in the end.

According to some article I found when asked what he would if he lived in the world of AoT, Isayama said:

Quote:
"I want to live on the border and just plant crops. Though I can imagine that this kind of lifestyle has its own hardships, I would never be a soldier."
That sounds like what a dove would say not a hawk.

OTOH, the most dove-like character was probably King Fritz, and see where his decisions lead. (Then again, maybe it's because that asshole took the easy way out, letting later Eldians holding a terrible bag, instead of trying to build a lasting peace from a position of strength, no matter how many generations it took.)

Welp that did not disappoint, the nutcracker scene was fantastic and finally Armin makes his appearance although I do think the character is too old for the voice of Marina Inoue.

That's neither here nor there for me. There are plenty of people with hawkish attitudes who wouldn't want to be soldiers themselves. "Chickenhawk" would be an uncharitable term for those in positions of power but as far as I can see, it's actually very common to have such views in general.

However you do make a point that Isayama could actually just be portraying a fatalistic view of humanity in general and that humanity cannot help but devolve into evil regardless of whether they are hawks or doves. In that sense, Isayama isn't portraying necessary evil but rather inevitable evil. I (mostly) like that idea actually, and I'll keep that in mind. I do wish it didn't have to go "both-sides"ism with allegorical Nazis to do that, but I'm pretty much used to seeing that shit with Gundam so whatever. But putting all that aside for a bit...

Episode 66

Daaaaaaaaayum. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayum.

That was just an amazing episode. So much thrilling action and development. Zeke went down in a surprisingly anticlimactic manner but everything else was epic as hell. Armin's play and the takedown on Pieck were great but the standout moment for me was definitely Eren brutally using the Jaw Titan as a tool to break and eat Warhammer. But it was kinda bullshit that he stopped before eating the Jaw Titan...

This made up for last week's episode. The action was really good here. The highlight was definitely Eren using Porco as a nutcracker, with the latter begging him to stop.

To go back to the previous discussion about how many episodes are left, let me tell you right away: it will NOT end after 16 episodes. The first six episodes have covered chapters 91 to 104. The manga is currently on chapter 136, and confirmed to end at 140. There will be another cour for sure.

This episode was great because whoever is at the direction is doing an awesome job. He's taking the scenes of the manga and he's transposing them into an anime format in a masterful manner, so much that they are having on me a way better impact than the original work did.

It is really a pity that the animation department is so lackluster and that so abundant use of bad 3D graphic is used. I would argue that even the previous episode was a very good episode, but the bad animation was distracting and made it look bad. It just wasn't so bad this time.

This episode has some great action and was so fun the 22 minutes practically flew past. Eren turning Porco into a nut cracker was a treat to see and was more impactful than it was in the manga.

This season focuses a lot on the little kids, and it tries to make the viewer sympathize with the kids. But then I remembered something. That Mikasa wannabe girl actually was a cold blooded killer at the start of the season, killing a lot of people. She herself doesn't value other people's lives, and she wants to become the armored titan so that she kill even more people on Paradis Island. With all that in mind, she doesn't deserve any sympathy and her anger is full of hypocrisy.

So Eren wiping her squad out is actually very justifiable. The only outright, morally negative action that Eren did was involving civilians.
