I did not like the direction (artwise) that AGE took and now they are going even further and reducing gundams to toys. I don't know the story of AGE but I am sure it wasn't about a bunch of kids playing with toys against each other ala Yugioh, beyblade, vanguard and similar series.

One difference is that Gunpla really is a very integral part of Gundam, to the point where the original Mobile Suit Gundam only survived financially because of the toys, right up until the reruns and movies. And every Gundam TV series has had Gunpla as an agenda - find me a Gundam TV series that doesn't have a tie-in Gunpla line when it aired.

I won't lie though.... if Gundam was simply reduced to being a toyline, I'd be just as upset as well. However, I don't think I'd be as invested in Gundam as I am now if not for the Gunpla, and so a series that pays tribute to the large Gundam community that is also in it for the models is something that's welcome to me. Do note how people were up in arms when they thought AGE was gonna be about card games (a thankfully disproven notion), but the same people received Gunpla Builders very well.

Besides, Gundam always has had something for everybody, why not the Gunpla crowd? For your fix of a serious Gundam, there's still the final Unicorn episode and the upcoming Gundam: The Origin.
