Designs mean little in this case. Tone is everything (though like I said this appears to be a comedy-action show, much like many light novel adaptations). |

I thinks is the infamous Kyoani's style that brings down any sign of coolness on the series. The original art was a more... serious(?) btw, I think the eyes design doesn't fit.

Oh wait no it's not. Yes, how dare characters have big eyes exactly like almost everything else that airs every season. Seriously, do you people just hide in the dark places of the world, only crawling up to pay attention to KyoAni shows? Do you even watch anime? |

You took Another seriously (for 10 episodes anyway) with no problem even tough it shared the same original charadesigner as Haruhi. Hell I'll take those charadesigns over other fall action show designs like Kyousogiga or Yozakura Quartet (though I highly look forward to those shows as well)

At least Ryo-tomo tried to make the faces a little sharper looking like in Free! instead of completely round like in Tamako Market and K-On!. |

To be absolutely frank? Some people have no right to talk when most have at least one series that they've gotten giggly over that has characters with big, stupid-looking googly moe eyes that're twice the size (or even bigger) than those of KyoAni's style. I mean, really.
Now onto the new PV. The production quality seems high. Gorgeous animation, as to be expected of KyoAni. Female protags who wear glasses while being a bit clumsy, yet are badass fighters at the same time will always find a soft spot in my heart. Mirai is ridiculously cute and cool all at once. I just hope that Akihito won't be a bland/annoying male protag. Regardless of what anyone says, I'm looking forward to it.

I think it's fair that people were hoping for this series to look more like the original commercial than what we got here. Less stylistic designs and art direction. I'm sure it'll look nice visually, but there's ample reason to be disappointed in Kyoani's decision here.

Character map is out:
http://anime-kyokai.com/character/ Now to see what relationship these characters have with each other.

Add me to the list of people disappointed with the art style. It definitely looks more generic than the LN advertisement from before. The black-haired girl in particular looks a lot worse and less distinctive. However, at least we can attribute this to the change in the character designer (darn KyoAni for being so strictly in-house).
This does not mean I'm not still extremely interested in this anime, and I'm sure I can get used to and enjoy the new art style. |

RIP LN Mitsuki design.
That's the only thing I'm really pained about. The shift in artstyle direction? Not really much of a difference. Only difference I see is that they ditched the weird mix of colors for what seems to me, a "space distortion". But really, not much different from the LN CM. It's really hard to tell that they completely deviated from the whole art direction. Quite frankly if only I'm allowed to post some LN scans here I could show that there really isn't much of a difference.
